Catholic Education Week Mass

St Virgils College is playing a large role in the Catholic Education Week Mass next Thursday 17 August at St Mary’s Catholic Cathedral. The junior and senior choirs are combining to sing the hymns and mass parts, the Liturgy Band will be playing the Recessional Hymn, and we are providing speakers and altar servers. I thank those students who have volunteered to assist in these various roles, and I look forward to sharing the photos taken by Catholic Education after the event.

Feast of the Assumption

On Tuesday 15 August we will have a whole school Mass to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption. This holy day marks the occasion of the Virgin Mary's bodily ascent to heaven at the end of her life. The Mass will begin at 11.30 am and we warmly invite any parents/guardians who would like to join us for this special Mass. Please email Mrs Kim Mooney on kmooney@stvirgils.tas.edu.au to RSVP, so we ensure there is enough seating for everyone.

What is a Man of St Virgil's?

This is the unit we are currently doing with Year 9 Religion. In this unit we are looking at the values we hold here at the college, and how that relates to our students' lives. We are looking at loyalty, courage, adversity, and resilience, amongst other things.

We have reached out to our Old Vigilians to come and speak to our Year 9 Religion students in Period 6 on Thursday 17 August. We are looking for gentlemen, with whom our students can relate to, and engage with, who represent a wide range of vocations – arts, sports, medicine, education etc, who would feel comfortable speaking briefly about their experience here at St Virgils, and then answering questions from our students. Please email Mrs Kim Mooney on kmooney@stvirgils.tas.edu.au if you would be interested in helping us out, with a short biography we can provide to our students to aide in their preparation.

Vinnies Assistance

A big thank you to Mr Aaron Lucas and his team who provided 15L of soup to Vinnies here at the Senior School, and to Ms Amelia Daun and the Junior School, who responded to the call from Vinnies when they ran out of soup to distribute to those in need. It is a wonderful reflection of how we live our gospel values. Christians are taught to not just give but to give from the heart to everyone in need regardless of their race or religion because “Christ is all and in all.” St Virgils has reflected this beautifully.
