GRANDPARENT’S DAY LITURGY / WALKATHON (Oxford Falls)

Each year, Junior School students and staff participate in a walkathon, raising money for our two partner schools, St Joseph’s Walgett and St Mary’s Bowraville as well as for our World Vision child, Gloria, from Zambia.

Following is the link for walkathon donations:

We are encouraging parents/carers to share the link above for donations to the walkathon. All donations will be received through this link as boys will not be going door-to-door to request donations or bringing in cash as in the past.

This year, we invite grandparents to join us for Grandparent's Day and the walkathon on Thursday 10 August at Oxford Falls starting with a special liturgy at 10:45 am.

Please share this invitation with Grandparents and for catering purposes, please RSVP using this link:

Please note:  RSVPs need to be in by the end of this week (Friday 4 August), thank you.

FATHER AND SON SPORTS DAY & LITURGY (Oxford Falls)

This year, dads are warmly invited to join us for a special Father’s Day liturgy at 9:45 am in the Christian Brothers Centre at Oxford Falls before putting on the sports gear for a fun day of sport with their son.  For catering and planning purposes, please ensure that you RSVP by Friday 18 August.

MERIT AWARDS

Congratulations to last week’s Merit Award winners:

TEACHING AND LEARNING

It has been a busy start to Term 3 and all the students in the Junior School are busy engaging in meaningful and authentic learning.

SCIENCE

6 Blue had another fantastic Science lesson last Friday. Students simulated an avalanche by tilting a tray with a variety of materials such as sand, flour, washing powder and sugar. Groups independently decided how they wanted to layer the materials, and how they might like to change their layers to replicate it a second or third time. The class discovered that the reactions which represented an avalanche most accurately were those with a solid base layer (perhaps with compacted damp sand) followed by a layer of lighter materials. Well done 6 Blue!

DRAMA

Last week, 6 Gold engaged in a captivating Drama lesson outside in the Junior School playground. Improvisation activities saw the students enthusiastically portraying various characters. It was a wonderful opportunity for our young actors to showcase their talents and embrace the joy of storytelling through drama.

DA VINCI DECATHLON

Last Thursday, students from St Pius X College competed in the Junior School da Vinci Decathlon at Knox Grammar School. Well done to all the students for their efforts and hard work. I would like to extend a congratulations to the Year 6 team who placed first for Mathematics. We are all very proud of those students involved.

We thank Mr Damo, Mrs Gunns, and Mr Cummins for their time in supporting the boys to prepare for the competition.

AUSTRALIAN PRIMARY PRINCIPALS’ ASSOCIATION (APPA) CONFERENCE

This week, Mrs Greenwood has been in Hobart with several hundred other Primary Principals and Heads of Junior Schools at the APPA conference.  Keynote speakers have included artic explorer James Castrission and media identity and psychologist, Michael Carr-Gregg.  We look forward to Mrs Greenwood sharing all she has learnt over the past three days.

Thank you

With this being our last round of Winter Sport, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been involved in whatever capacity; coach, supporter, driver, consoler, player, official, and volunteer. Personally, I am incredibly grateful to you all and I am so impressed by the way all players conduct themselves, win, lose or draw. I hope, like me, you will reminisce with delight at the memories our young men have created throughout the Winter Season. Best of luck to all at the weekend.

Mr Ben Ryan - Junior School Sports Coordinator

Junior Rugby:

Junior Rugby was back in full swing this week with a great training session at Oxford Falls on Thursday. The Prep Firsts had a shaky start but kicked into gear and put on a great display of rugby across the field. The boys finished with a dominant win over Redfield College.  The 11As faced a very strong Scots squad. Upon reflection, some boys said that a positive aspect that could be taken away from a tough game is that it gives them an opportunity to learn from other players which would help them develop their own game.  The Rugby 7s teams are commended for their efforts in their games. Despite being short two players, the boys dug deep and played well against equal opposition.
