Senior Football

It was a mixed week of results against rivals St Patrick’s Strathfield, there were some great wins, particularly in the Open’s age group with the 1sts, 3rds and 4ths all dominating their opponents. It was also great to see that many teams had also improved their results from last time we played them.

This weekend sees mainly away fixtures across multiple locations so please check CANVAS and Woodchatta carefully.

This is the final round of football.  Teams successful in making it to the semi finals will be confirmed on Monday.  ISA teams will continue to train as long as they are in competition. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the coaches of the teams who work tirelessly to provide this sporting opportunity for your sons. I would also like to acknowledge the outstanding efforts of our departing Football Club President, Mrs Lorna Hammond. Mrs Hammond and her team have helped raise substantial funds for professional coaching through bake sales, raffles, running BBQ’s and organising social events. Thank you Lorna.

Last week we had some splendid games with Division One battling it out in close sets with just a 2-game point difference. Congratulations must also go to Divisions 7 & 10 for their well-deserved victories.

As we approach the end of the season, the upcoming week marks the final matches before the eagerly awaited finals.

Students who qualify for the finals will be notified next week and must attend the training on Tuesday, 8 August.

Strength and Conditioning

A few reminders about strength and conditioning at the college.

1) Booking System

The new booking system will be heavily enforced in which students book their training time slot through the Sarto gym link which can be found on the school’s intranet page. This is an internal online booking/management system which will be saved to the student's school calendar. On arrival at the gym, students must sign in via the Teambuildr platform (the checking system will be accessible on the gym Ipad). If students are unable to reserve a position it means the time slot is full and they will have to actively check if a position becomes available due to another students cancellation.

To ensure safety and a quality training session, the maximum number of students in the facility is 25.

If a student turns up and they are not on the booking list, they will be asked to leave.

2) Programs

Team builder is a platform that allows coaches to easily track and record progress, it is a great way for students to view their set program and receive gym notifications ( ie testing week, or the ‘gym is closed’). To reduce injury and to manage student performance, students must sign up to their respective program.  Coaches should be used as a resource for the students to adjust training programs on teambuilder and provide hands-on supervision during workouts to maintain a safe training environment, to prevent injuries and maximise training effectiveness.

Program review:

  • Rugby students in Years 9 - 12 have now moved into their in-season program. This change will happen automatically on the team builder platform. All rugby students in Year 9-12 should make an effort to attend Wednesday morning sessions.
  • Basketball students in Years 9 - 12 are about to begin their first season of S&C (Strength and Conditioning). The new Basketball S&C program will feature an introductory Olympic Weightlifting workshop conducted by Danielle and her weightlifting coach. As Danielle won't be able to attend the morning sessions in person until Term 4, Brett will take charge of these sessions until then. Pre-season activities will commence on Tuesday 7:15 am, 8 August.
  • Generic program provides a series of strength programs and students must sign up to this join code if they if they are not in the 9 - 12. This will ensure they appear on the sign in register and also provides optional programs.
  • For safety reasons, students in Year 7 and 8 must follow the specific training programs provided by the S&C coaches. Failure to comply with these programs may result in coaches asking the student to leave the facility.

3) Uniform

Students must be in their school uniform or full sports uniform when leaving the gym (only if they have PASS or PDPHPE practical Period 1 they can remain in their full sport uniform). The Sarto gym expects a high standard of responsibility from participating students. A friendly reminder if a student demonstrates unfavourable behaviour within any aspect of the college, or obtains 3 missed pre booked sessions, a three-strike policy is used and the student will not be able to use the facilities for the remainder of the term.

Session Times are:

If students have reserved a spot and are unable to make their booked session, they MUST cancel on the platform to allow the waitlisted students an opportunity to train.  The program operates on three strike policy, students are required to attend all the sessions who which they register.

Athletics

Athletics training has commenced.

When: Every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Where: Chartered bus to and from Rotary Fields (may be subject to change), via Anderson St.

Who: All students who made Top 3 and those interested in any track or field events are encouraged to attend training. Final ISA team will be selected based on performance.
