Reflection
Two Horses!!
Just up the road from my home is a field with two horses in it.
From a distance, each horse looks like any other horse.
But if you stop your car, or are walking by, you will notice something quite amazing . . .
Looking into the eyes of one horse will disclose that he is blind. His owner has chosen not to have him put down but has made a good home for him.
This alone is amazing.
If you stand nearby and listen, you will hear the sound of a bell. Looking around for the source of the sound, you will see that it comes from the smaller horse in the field.
Attached to the horse’s halter is a small bell.
It lets the blind friend know where the other horse is, so he can follow.
As you stand and watch these two friends, you’ll see that the horse with the bell is always checking on the blind horse, and that the blind horse will listen for the bell and then slowly walk to where the other horse is, trusting that he will not be led astray.
When the horse, with the bell returns to the shelter of the barn each evening, it stops occasionally and looks back, making sure that the blind friend isn’t too far behind to hear the bell.
Like the owners of these two horses, God does not throw us away just because we are not perfect, or because we have problems or challenges.
He watches over us and even brings others into our lives to help us when we are in need. Sometimes we are the blind horse, being guided by the little ringing bell of those who God places in our lives. Other times we are the guide horse, helping others to find their way . . .
Good friends are like that . . .
You may not always see them, but you know they are always there.
Please listen for my bell and I’ll listen for yours.
And remember . . .
Be kinder than necessary –
Everyone you meet is fighting
Some kind of battle
Live simply,
Love generously,
Care deeply,
Speak kindly . . .
And leave the rest to God!
Blessed Edmund Rice Icon
Across the bottom, images recall men of holiness and wisdom.
The icon provides all Edmund Rice communities an insight into the person who was Blessed Edmund Rice.
There is the boat in the first symbol bearing peregrini pro Christi (pilgrims for Christ) from the shores of Ireland to spread the Good News. It was a missionary initiative which would subsequently embrace the globe, with Irish Christian Brothers making a singular contribution.

New EREA National Executive Director, Mr Liam Smith to visit the College
On Thursday 3 August, the new EREA National Executive Director, Mr Liam Smith, will visit the College. This is the first time that Mr Smith has visited the college as the EREA National Executive Director, therefore I will be looking forward to introducing him to as many of our fine gentlemen as possible as well as providing him with an opportunity to look at our facilities.
da Vinci success
Last week, we had the outstanding news of the success of our Year 6 da Vinci team who won the mathematics component of the competition. What an amazing feat by our eight Year 6 students in winning this most prestigious competition. Congratulations to Mr Paul Cummins and the whole da Vinci team, led by Mr Alex Damo, for their preparation and commitment to the learning growth of our students. Special thanks to our senior students who have assisted in preparing our da Vinci teams for this competition.
Football Supporters Social function
Another wonderful evening shared with parents and friends of our Football Club. Special thanks to Mrs Lorna Hammond, Mr Geoff Linders and Mr Matthew Zanello for their organisation of a highly success evening. Thank you to all the parents who attended the evening, and to the many donations provided to the Football Club.
Year 12 Trial HSC Examinations
The Trial HSC Examinations have commenced well. Though nervous, the students were quietly confident on Monday, Tuesday and today as they completed their English, Music, VET Retail, IPT, Design and Technology, Ancient History and Industrial Technology papers. Please continue to pray the prayer below for all our HSC students as they complete these important examinations.
Prayer for Year 12 Students
Dear Lord,
We ask for your blessing for our students
undertaking Trial HSC examinations over the next two weeks.
Grant them the confidence they deserve from their years of diligent study.
Grant them the ability to comprehend questions and effectively plan
and articulate their responses.
May they be enriched by the gift of the Holy Spirit – Wisdom,
Understanding, Fortitude and Knowledge.
May their faith and piety give them the strength to face these examinations and the satisfaction of achieving their personal best.
We ask these things through Christ Our Lord, Amen.
Celebration of Learning Assembly
On Thursday 3 August, the College has the opportunity to acknowledge the outstanding academic achievements of many of our young men. This significant assembly recognises the hard work and commitment required if you are to excel in your academic endeavours. I am looking forward to our Keynote address by Mr Billy Johnson, College Captain 2013, who will provide an insight for our young men into achieving their personal best and how St Pius X influenced his life.
The event will begin at 11:00 am and will be live-streamed (link below).
The Feast of the Assumption celebration
