Green Team

Over the past two weeks the Green Team have been very busy with our new garden.

After the initial planting of ginger by Mrs Thomas, we have added seedlings of lettuce, spinach, herbs and bok choy.

The Green Team now have a roster so that our plants are watered and tended to throughout the week.

The Green Team are also excited about the Spring Fair. Throughout the fair, these students will be asked to assist in the potting stand. The potting stand will be set up as part of our Kids Zone by the Cola. Green Team volunteers will be on hand to assist with the potting and talk to parents about the work they have done in the vegie garden.

Thanks Green Team for all your great work!

Fruit & Veg Month

28th August - 22 September

Holy Family will be participating in Fruit & Veg Month 2023.

This year’s theme is: Fruit & Vegie STEMs!

Together we will learn about the science, maths and technology behind fruit and vegetables. During STEAM lessons, students will be involved in various activities to encourage them to eat more fruit and vegetables.

Fruit & Veg Month 2023 runs from Monday 28 August to Friday 22 September.

Student Competition

Can you picture yourself as a Fruit & Veg Scientist? Your challenge is to create a portrait of yourself as  Fruit & Veg Scientist. To keep with the STEM theme, we’d like to see digitally created ones (for example with MS Paint) or even “engineered” 2D or 3D creations. You can use anything they can find in their environment. The sky is the limit! Think for example using building blocks, school supplies, paper scraps, objects around the house, fruits and vegetables, skewers and glue, cutlery etc.

There are seven (7) great prize packs up for grabs to help the winners continue learning about fruit and veg science. Each pack includes:

  • a kitchen science kit
  • an ‘Edible Science’ book by National Geographic
  • and a science or vegetable board game.

Holy Family is able to enter 7 entries. Winners will be selected from entries across the state.

Submit your entries to Mrs Nunn by September 20.

We can’t wait to see all the entries!

Have a lovely weekend.
