Welcome

In this edition of MY FUTURE Careers News, I encourage students and parents to inform themselves of tertiary options by attending Open Days. This weekend includes Latrobe University, Monash University and RMIT University (Bundoora campus). Keep an eye out in What’s On in the Next Few Weeks section of this newsletter to stay informed of upcoming events.
The Year 10 students have been interviewed regarding their Subject Selection over the last week. This has included applications for Accelerated Studies, VET places and External study requests. This will be finalised over the coming weeks.
The VTAC University Entry process has officially begun. The Year 12 cohort were informed this week at the College via an information session. A parent and student session will be held next Wednesday, 9 August in the McAllister Centre. (check PAM for details) This is to ensure that all are informed of the process for applying for a tertiary place in 2024. The application process can be daunting, and I encourage all Year 12 students to book a time with me to discuss their options, which include contingency strategies should results not go to plan. Timely applications for University entry close on Thursday, 28 September 2023.
In addition, all students applying for tertiary entry will require a USI (Unique Student Identifier) before beginning the process. It can be obtained via this link https://www.usi.gov.au/students
I would also like to share another reflection on Work Experience that was undertaken by Year 10 student Edith Hamilton over the term break.
Recently I had the opportunity to complete work experience at a company called CCL Secure. CCL is a high security business that designs and manufactures polymer bank notes around the world including Australia.
The opportunity to work within the production and research & development lab, quality testing the bank notes and security features, was amazing! Not only were the skills I learnt in the labs an experience, but the conversations I had with scientists and other managers about their pathway into this field even more useful.
It has given me a greater insight into STEM and pathways in the workplace and has helped guide the choices I have made for my VCE subjects. Just getting to experience a working environment and gaining more independence is something that you wouldn’t learn at school. It has been the highlight of this year so far.
