Our Music Week Round-up
Reading music and developing aural (sense of hearing) skills.
In Term 3, grade 2N has been taking part in a 5-week Kodaly-based inquiry exploring the use of manipulatives in the music classroom. Manipulatives like ‘tone phones’, song puzzles, and use of Curwen Hand Signs provide students with visual, kinaesthetic, and aural experiences with mi, so, and la pitches and promote improvisation and composition skills. In the video attached here, students Kadia and Magnus are using ‘tone phones’ (tone ladders) to test each other on singing their improvised tone songs. So far, the students have enjoyed the challenge and the collaborative opportunities of the activities and impressed both Mrs Green and Mrs Morrow with their musical abilities and enthusiasm.

A note has been sent home to performers who will be participating in this prestigious annual event. Our amazing string groups will be performing along with the Junior Strings of Banyule, and the IPS Choir.
This week, I have sent a message home via Class Dojo. Please check that I have your child’s name on the choir list (years 3 – 6) if they are keen to perform. The program booklet is being collated by the Heidelberg Orchestras crew and I would like to ensure we have all names correct. If you can’t make it to the concert and your child’s name is on the list, please let me know. Over 70 students have nominated to perform. That’s an outstanding effort.
