Year 6 Camp Canberra Tour update

On Year 6 Canberra Camp in 2022 we had the pleasure of attending the Royal Thai Embassy, we had the pleasure of meeting Her Excellency, the Ambassador and her staff. This was a wonderful cultural experience, and we are pleased to have been invited back with a new group of students this year.

The week-long Canberra camp is an important part of the senior school curriculum and provides an invaluable learning experience as well as a terrific opportunity for students to explore the culture and history of the nation's capital.

In recent years, the camping program has become more expensive, and we are unable to pass along the increased staffing costs to families. Year 6 students currently assist by running fundraisers prior to Canberra Camp to reduce the cost to their parents.  I am very pleased to report that the Thai Australian Chamber has contacted me and agreed to support Ivanhoe Primary School with financial sponsorship to assist in continuing the Thai Embassy visit and "... introducing the next generation of world-changers to diverse and inclusive learning."  This will help offset the critical and ancillary costs that are not passed on to families of campers. On behalf of the entire school community I thank Her Excellency Ms. Arjaree Sriratanaban who is the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand, the Thai Australian Chamber, the Honorary Consul of Thailand and others behind the scenes who helped make this possible. This Sponsorship is ongoing and will be evaluated at a future date, yet to be identified.

Fair donations sought for our silent auction

As proud members of the Ivanhoe Primary School community, we are excited to announce that the bi-annual school fair is just around the corner! To make this year's event an even greater success, we are seeking your generous support.

One of the most cherished highlights of the fair is the Silent Auction, where we offer a diverse array of items and experiences for bidding, all made possible through the kind contributions of individuals like yourself.

We kindly request your assistance in spreading the word about the Silent Auction donation opportunity among your extended network of family and friends. In your child’s school bag, you will find the Silent Auction Donation Letter, which outlines the process and provides further details. We encourage you to share this letter with your loved ones, friends, and colleagues, inviting them to contribute goods, services or donations where possible.

Thank you for your ongoing support and dedication to our school community!

Little Voices Loud Futures

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day

This year’s National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day theme ‘Little Voices, Loud Futures’ fires that ambition. We are raising awareness for the bright futures of our children and the potential for their voices to pave a new path for our nation.

As always, we support the voices of our children in calling for a future where they are proud and empowered by their culture to speak their truth and be listened to by all Australians.

 Foundation 100 Days of School!

Last week Foundation students celebrated 100 DAYS OF SCHOOL.

Last Thursday, our Foundation classes had a FABULOUS day celebrating their 100th Day of School. The celebrations took place all week, with students completing a range of activities focusing on the number 100. Some of our favourites included skip counting to 100, creating a sparkly crown, imagining what our world would look like in 100 years’ time, and writing about what we would buy if we had $100 to spend! Thursday kicked off with a parade of all the amazing dress ups, including walking sticks, hair rollers, wigs and facial hair. Thanks to all of the families at home who helped make this day super special for their little people.

The Foundation teachers are all so proud of each and every student. Let’s see what the next 100 days of school brings!

Parent Opinion Survey

We want our parents / caregivers / guardians to tell us what they think.

A random sample of approximately 30 per cent of parents / caregivers / guardians has been selected to participate in this year’s survey. The link was sent to families last Thursday.

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey is open until Friday 8 September.

The survey is conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the survey period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. The survey results will be communicated to parents / caregivers / guardians through the Annual Report to the Community.

Last year we used the survey results to plan more effectively to communicate to the community. Please speak to me if you would like more information.

THIS Saturday 12th August is IPS Trivia Night!

Father’s Day Breakfast – 31st Aug

It is time for Dads and Special Men to enjoy our annual IPS Father’s Day breakfast!

Come along to the school hall on Thursday 31st Aug between 7:30am - 8:30am, breakfast orders will be available through My School Connect (same as placing a lunch order and must be placed before Friday August 25th to give us time to get supplies and prepare).

We’ll also have a coffee van to buy a barista brew if you need it.

Please note:

  • We need to pack up at 8:30am to get the hall (and kids) back in shape in time for classes, so please arrive with time to enjoy and be finished before 8:30.
  • You need to order food and juice in advance, no orders or changes on the day and please remember to order for you and the kids too!
  • So that we’ll have room for everyone we’re celebrating on the day, where possible, please limit to Dads/Special People and IPS students (and younger siblings).

Don’t worry, Mums don’t have to be left out!

We need some Mums to help on the day, show the Dads you care and come along to help us setup the tables and do some serving.  No cooks needed, our wonderful Annette in the canteen is taking care of all that.  If you can come along between 6:30am and 9am, please contact Veron Teo – veron.listx@gmail.com (0401976755).

If you’re having problems with placing your order, please contact Annette in the canteen on 0413 047 049 (but please wait until you see the menu is available).

Thanks – and see you there!

Finally ...

When talking with your child(ren) encourage empathy, appreciation, gratitude and to think about the needs and feelings of others and not just to think about themselves.

Dr Michael Carr-Gregg, one of Australia's highest profile psychologists,  says

"... it’s ridiculous that we imagine a boundaryless child is a happy one. He says we have to get in early unless we want to flood the ranks of the entitled and unbearable. Guide them through problem-solving. Teach them to take responsibility for their own actions. As parents, we all struggle with these to some extent because we think loving them is about unconditional support."

I hope you'll join us at our next events, including:  Trivia Night, Father's Day Breakfast, a Working Bee and our IPS Fair. Thank you for your support.

Have  a great week.
