OUR FRENCH DAY EXTRAVAGANZA: CELEBRATING CULTURE AND CREATIVITY!

By Mme Agache & Mme Nicholas (French Teachers)

Last Wednesday we had an awesome day celebrating France and all things French.

What an opportunity for our students to immerse themselves in the French culture!

C’ était fantastique!

The day begun with excited students wearing a huge array of different French costumes. On the day, we had many French chefs, some Coco Channels, several French artists, some mimes, fairy tale characters, French toast, a selection of French soccer players, a famous French aviator, Coco Chanel’s poodle, Buttles, and many others.

It was extremely difficult for the panel of judges to choose the children who received the certificates as winners of the Dress Up Parade.

During the day students were involved in a variety of fun, engaging activities covering all areas of the curriculum and immersing them in the French culture.

They rotated to different stations to play pétanque (bocce) or soccer, to paint like Sonia Delaunay or like Monet to produce Orphism- inspired and impressionism- style artworks, to create stained glass window pieces as the ones seen at Nôtre Dame, learn the steps to a French folk dance and complete other French art and craft inspired activities.

Students from Prep to Year Four used Lego to build large versions of the Eiffel Tower, whilst Year Five and Year Six children participated in a French colouring competition with the top four pieces being awarded prizes.

French Day was a great success thanks to the support of our leadership team and admin staff, and the hard work, enthusiasm and creativity of teachers, learning assistants and the parents.

Merci beaucoup tout le monde!

YEAR 7 EGG DROP CHALLENGE

By Jackie Eastwood (Secondary Science Teacher)

In an exciting and hands-on project, Year 7 students at our school were challenged to build contraptions that could minimize the impact forces on an egg dropped from a height of 5 meters. The objective was to protect the fragile eggs and ensure their survival upon impact. Remarkably, out of the 27 egg drops, an impressive 23 eggs emerged unscathed, a testament to the ingenuity and creativity of our young innovators.

FROM DRAWINGS TO REALITY: 3D PRINTING IN SECONDARY SCHOOL

By  Jacinta Leed (Secondary VCD Teacher)

In Visual Communication Design classes, students have been enjoying using our new 3D printers! Students have been learning how to use CAD software to model and create their designs. Year 7s created keychains, Year 8s learned to model hinges and create articulated moving animals and year 9s created 3D printed characters. It has been really fun to see ideas and designs evolve from a drawing on paper to a real physical object. Great work everyone on learning new modeling skills and we look forward to seeing what you produce in future!

THE AMAZING MATHS RACE!

By Elle Chung (Secondary Maths Teacher)

What a week it was for our secondary students who participated in the Amazing Maths Race! This fun and challenging event tested their mathematical skills, teamwork and creativity as they raced around the school solving puzzles and completing tasks.

The Year 7 students kicked off the week on Monday 17th with great enthusiasm and energy. They showed impressive problem-solving abilities and collaboration as they tackled the various challenges. The winning team managed to collect 28 stamps from around the world!

The Year 8 and 9 students had their turn on Tuesday 18th, and they did not disappoint. They displayed excellent mathematical reasoning and communication skills as they worked together to crack the codes and find the clues. The competition was fierce, and the winning team and the runner up were very close for both year levels.

The Year 10 students wrapped up the week on Wednesday 19th with a fantastic performance. They demonstrated outstanding mathematical thinking and strategic planning as they navigated the race course.

They also showed great sportsmanship and respect for their peers. We are so proud of all our students who participated in the Amazing Race Maths incursion. They had a lot of fun while doing maths and made some lasting memories. Well done, everyone!
