FOUNDATIONS OF CHARACTER

BY PETER CLIFFE (PRINCIPAL)

Over the last term break and into the beginning of Term 3, I had the amazing opportunity to participate in a course at Harvard University in Boston, USA. The course was entitled ‘Achieving Excellence: Leadership Development for Principals’.

The opportunity to study and learn at such a prestigious university steeped in history as Harvard, an institution that was founded in 1636, was inspiring in itself, especially when 200 school principals from around the world gathered together for the training. I am grateful to the BHCS School Council for releasing me to attend and to Independent Schools Victoria for assisting with sponsoring my participation. There is so much that I’ve learnt from this course and I look forward to seeing how some of these new ideas can be applied to BHCS over the coming months.

One of the things that was taught during the course, which is something I have always known, is that great schools exist when there are great staff. We definitely have great staff here at BHCS and I am very proud of them. Teaching is never a 9-5 job.

BHCS staff consistently go over and beyond what is expected so that your children may have the best possible experiences at school. How do I know? I know because I work very closely with them every day. I see their passion and commitment to their roles, their willingness to always go that extra mile.  Staff at BHCS view their employment here as a calling, not just a job. I encourage you to take time to pray for our staff as they commit to working hard on behalf of the students in our school.

Quote of the week…

“The foundations of character are built not by lecture; but by bricks of good example, laid day by day.”
