SAKG/Science

It has been a very exciting term for all P-6 students in SAKG/Science! The entire school cohort has been investigating various ideas and concepts about Chemical Sciences.

Prep students have been learning about how they can use their 5 Senses (sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch) to determine what things are made of and grouping items based on their basic properties.

Grade 1/2 students have been deepening their understanding of materials, how and why common items we use everyday are made of these and how these can be changed.

Grade 3/4 students have been focusing on how natural and manmade materials are used in the kitchen. They are currently in the process of developing their very own cooking utensil.

Grade 5/6 students are investigating the difference between solids, liquids and gases and how we would describe their properties to someone else. We have also been thinking about where we might find each of them in the kitchen.

The Green Team Leaders went on a fabulous excursion to Velisha farms which was supported very generously by the Kids to Ag Grant. They learned all about how vegetables are grown, harvested, packaged and delivered to stores. Many students were also very shocked by the amount of vegetables that are rejected from supermarkets for being slightly imperfect.

The wider Green Team (years 3-6) have been preparing sustainable activities for P-2 students to complete during the remainder of the year.
