Uniform Update

As we approach the middle of May and winter approaches could we remind all of our families that winter uniform is to be worn by students and this includes the following:

  • A school tie with either the school pants or winter skirt. The uniform supplier now has a supply of ties at the uniform shop and it should accommodate all of the students who are waiting for ties to complete their uniform
  • Students should only be wearing their Health and PE uniform on the days that they have Health and PE. Hoodies or extra jumpers under the PE uniform items are not acceptable. Students who continue to do this will be sent home or be issued with a detention.
  • Students are able to wear either long white socks or blue tights with their winter skirt.
  • We remind all students that the most outer garment when travelling to and from school should always be their school blazer. It is not an optional item.

We thank those students and families who continue to support our uniform expectations and wear their uniform to and from school with pride and respect.

Community Concern – Vaping

We have been alerted by a Community Police of a worrying trend that we have also noticed, that of younger people having access and engaging in vaporing.

This means that these students have access to the device or implement that is used for vaporing,  commonly named as e-cigarettes.

We view this practice in the same way that we view smoking at school or whilst in uniform. Our response to anyone smoking at school or while in uniform will be an automatic suspension.

At upcoming assemblies we will remind students of the school expectations in regard to smoking and the use of e-cigarettes. We will also send this information out to families via Operoo.

The Community Police has also confirmed that some local shops are selling the device to students and that the vaporised material that is used to load the device usually contains nicotine even if it is not listed as an ingredient on the packaging.

We encourage all families to discuss this recent trend with their daughter’s and the consequences of their actions if they think that doing this at school is acceptable.

Health concerns

We continue to be challenged by COVID and while Australia seems to have returned to life that is almost back to normal we remind all members of our community of the need to continue to practice the key aspects of health protection that we have learned over the last 12 months.

This includes staying home and getting tested if you are feeling unwell or presenting any of the symptoms such as a runny nose or cough. Also continuing to practice good hygiene practices such as washing hands and using hand sanitiser frequently and not sharing items such as food utensils with others.

As we approach the winter months we are reminded of the challenge that we face in relation to other infections such as influenza and other air borne diseases. It is important to sneeze into your elbow or a tissue, washing hands frequently before touching food and especially after going to the toilet. Also, making sure that, as we share the school with another 900 people every day, we are doing our best to stay healthy and illness free.

Wellbeing

As we also approach NAPLAN and End of Semester exams we encourage our families to monitor their daughter’s in terms of the stress and concern that these activities may cause.

Responses can vary from being quiet, to tears to even changes in behaviour.

If you have any concerns in relation to this please do not hesitate in contacting your daughter’s homeroom teacher or Year Level leader to discuss your concerns and strategies can be put in place to support her.
