'Learning another language is not only learning different words for the same things, but learning another way to think about things.' Flora Lewis

It’s been a busy start to Term 2 in the Languages Department. I recently came across an article on the benefits of learning a language in early childhood and primary level and I thought our community might be interested to read about some of the ways language learning is good for growing minds. Here’s a link also to an article that has some interesting suggestions as to ways you can support your child’s language learning journey. While overseas exchanges are not yet on the table, we are continuing discussion with our exchange partners and once the world opens up we will be ready to leap back in.

Our Year 9 Japanese students were very excited to welcome Kenny from Draw with Us to take them through the steps to drawing Manga style characters. This was part of a unit on describing physical characteristics and they will write a speech introducing their own unique character to the class in Japanese.

The Year 8 French girls have been working on the AIM Play 'Louis la Grenoulle'. Here are a few pictures of a group of girls presenting their play. The girls are:

  • Leticia B
  • Stephanie D
  • Bella A
  • Millie D

In the Year 12 Japanese class, the girls wrote Haiku inspired poems in Japanese to promote caring for our environment. Here are some offerings from two of the students.
