School Council Report

June 2021

After many years of lobbying for the funding needed to expand the school as part of the Stage 2 Build, it's extremely gratifying to see the main building's extension literally come up out of the ground! We are planning for the new part of the main building to be ready for students at the start of 2022, which will be perfect timing as another group of Year 7s joins our ever-growing school. It was wonderful to welcome the Parliamentary Secretary for Schools and Member for Mordialloc, Tim Richardson, to officially turn a sod on the project last month.

Council is also engaged in lobbying our local Members of Parliament, Council and VicRoads, to improve and upgrade the safety mechanisms in place for students as they make their way to and from school. We are advocating for the 40km/h speed limits to be enforced and expanded to join the zones between BSC and Beaumaris North Primary School, so that there is no confusion for drivers to slow down. We are also pushing for a crossing supervisor to be stationed at the lights on Balcombe and Reserve Roads, with initial indications positive from Bayside City Council, and are looking at ways we can ensure the bike lanes and paths that many students use every day are as safe as they can be.

School Councillors also continue to be actively involved in Curriculum discussions and decisions, Buildings and Grounds works and upgrades, alongside the Principal and Business Manager, in the Financial management of the College.

On behalf of everyone on School Council, I hope that you get a chance to enjoy some quality time with family and friends in the upcoming school holidays, should COVID-19 restrictions permit.

Kind Regards

Steve Pearce

School Council President
