Principal's Report

The students have adapted to the times and transitioned once again to the remote learning world. They have turned on cameras to connect and shown resilience as we continue their learning journey through technology.

Remote Learning 4.0

Our wonderful students, Bella Margheriti and Nicola Tratchuk, have used dance to tell the story of the times with Billy Idol’s song “Dancing with Myself”.

We have been using the Wellbeing Check-In form each GOAL session as well as monitoring student engagement through attendance and participation in remote learning sessions.  Please take the time to read and discuss with your child, the School Wide Positive Behaviour Expectations for Remote and Flexible Learning sent out on Compass last Friday (also included in this newsletter).

Student Opportunities & Experiences

It was great to hear about the students’ experiences when they returned from the Great Outdoors Mountain Biking Camp which was physically challenging and fun. Media club were once again heard on the radio waves as they broadcast on May 27th from Southern FM.

Our links to the community continue to grow as Art Club students create pieces for the Bayside Youth Art Exhibition with the theme of “Embracing the Moment”. This theme promotes one of our CORE values of optimism and I look forward to seeing the artwork it inspires.

Performing Arts continues to grow at the college, as we hold auditions for the Variety Night, to be held in Term 4.  This is a wonderful opportunity for budding performers to showcase their talents.

National Reconciliation Week - 27 May to 3 June

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The dates for NRW are the same each year: 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey— the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.

27 May 1967 On this day, Australia’s most successful referendum saw more than 90 per cent of Australians vote to give the Australian Government power to make laws for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and recognise them in the Census.

3 June 1992  On this day, the Australian High Court delivered the Mabo decision, the culmination of Eddie Koiki Mabo’s challenge to the legal fiction of ‘terra nullius’ (land belonging to no one) and leading to the legal recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Owners and Custodians of lands. This decision paved the way for Native Title. https://nrw.reconciliation.org.au/about-nrw/

Reconciliation is an opportunity for all Australians to move forward from Australia’s past history of injustice towards Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and seek to create a community strengthened by respectful relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and all Australians.

Student Medication

Beaumaris Secondary College encourages parents to arrange for medication to be taken outside of school hours. In the event that your child needs to take medication while at school (or at a school activity including camps and excursions), we ask that you familiarise yourself with our Administration of Medication Policy.
