Bentleigh East

As we end Semester One 2021, there are many things to congratulate the young men of Bentleigh East Campus for, especially their commitment to the Visual Arts.

A huge congratulations goes to Charlie Sill of Year 9, who, this year took out the people’s choice award for Kingston Arts annual Optika photography competition for his ‘Bird on a Wire’ We are immensely proud of Charlie for his recognition of his creative skills.

This year Arts Club at Bentleigh East have a welcomed a number of new members, particularly the Year 7 students who have demonstrated a commitment to the Visual Arts in their enthusiasm, creativity and a willingness to continue to develop their skills.

In terms of curriculum, well done to the Year 10 Art students who have produced some outstanding self-portraits in the style of selected artists of the 20th Century. These young men have worked tirelessly to develop and refine their technical skills and creativity.

The Year 9s this semester have enjoyed creating drawings exploring contemporary and traditional Japanese culture and have produced some excellent artworks. In the latter part of the semester, they have particularly enjoyed the complexities of exploring the Abstract Expressionist art movement and took on, with great vigour and excitement a response to the artist Jackson Pollock.

The Year 7 and 8s has continued to expand their knowledge of the visual arts, covering areas as diverse as Indigenous Art practices, Ceramics, Technical Drawing and Media and have demonstrated some excellent creative and technical skills.

Finally, it has been a great honour this semester to work with Paul Morrison and his team in working towards aligning and developing an organic and immersive curriculum for the young men of St Bedes College.

We look forward to what semester two has to hold for all the young men at St Bede’s and aim to continue to strive for the best of our students. Finally, I would like to acknowledge and thank Mr David Kirkles and Mr Joshua Romeo for their dedication to the team at Bentleigh East.
