HOOP TIME 2022!
SENIOR HOOP TIME
On the 15th of July, the Seniors embarked by bus to Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Center (MSAC) for the 2022 Hoop Time Competition. We played against 4 schools - Lowther Hall Anglican Grammar School, Our Lady’s Surrey Hills School and Brunswick South West School.
St Joseph’s had 4 teams - Jazz, Jesters, Jets and Jaguars. Together we played 19 games over the course of the day! In the end, we won 10 games, drew 1 game and lost 8 games. Our excellent St Joseph’s Jazz and Jaguars teams both made it to the semi-finals! The Jazz lost by only 3 points and the Jaguars drew their game!
Thank you so much to Miss Lauren, Miss Tess and Miss Maya for coming with us. A massive thank you to the amazing parents who came along too! Thank you to Chris Smith, Mark Armstrong, Andrew Burgess, Rohan White, Mira Smith, Josie Iuele, and Tanya Petrilli for coaching, scoring and umpiring. One last thank you to Tania Angerosa and Mel Martini for cheering us on in the afternoon!
Here is what some of our Seniors had to say about the day:
Elliot Becroft - St Joseph’s Jazz
Hooptime was a great experience. My team, the Jazz, were undefeated before we made it to the semi-final. In the previous games, we drew 9-9, won 24-2, 7-2 and then won 28-4. I thought it was super fun and I wish we could do it more than once a year.
Amelie Brunton - St Joseph’s Jets
Before Hooptime I didn’t see myself having so much fun playing basketball. Hooptime was a great experience for all of us and I never thought that basketball could be so much fun as hooptime was. I believe everyone thought that we were going to lose every game but by the first game we were all thrilled with energy and bouncing with enjoyment. We all had so much fun racing down the court passing the ball to each other. Thank you to all the parents and teachers that made this day possible. We couldn't have asked for a better day.
Audrey Uren - St Joseph’s Jaguars
I had a great day at MSAC for Hooptime. My team only lost one match and drew the semi-finals 14-14. My team only had one sub but we managed to make it work. We had a lot of fun during each game. Some games were challenging but we worked really well as a team and used lots of strategy and communication.
Tommy Mayne - St Joseph’s Jesters
Hooptime was a fun experience for me even if I don't like basketball that much. It was still very fun and I enjoyed it. We nearly made it to the semi-finals but we lost twice to Lowther Hall. All the teams were hard and challenging to play against. We lost 2 and we won 3 games! All of my team did a very amazing job in the games! I look forward to doing this again next year!
