Student Attendance


Absences are required to be monitored. Parents are asked to communicate with the school the reason their child is absent. 

Below is the procedure for Attendance and Absence Follow-Up

 

Schedule 4 clause 10 of the Education and Training Reform Regulations 2017 require that

schools have policies and procedures to monitor student attendance and to follow up

unexplained absences.

Attendance Monitoring

Attendance is checked twice a day

The school must check and record the daily attendance of all students. Teaching staff are required to monitor and record attendance of all students twice per day in every class including school excursions and identify and report absences from school or class.

Class Roll is take using SIMON twice a day:

  • 9.00 am
  • 2.15 pm

Teachers are responsible for recording absences if notified by parents (email, message)

Student absence - Teacher follow upOn return of student to school, teacher to make student feel welcome, that they have been missed.

At 10 am the Administration Officer will check class rolls on SIMON

All Victorian schools are required to contact parents, guardians and/or carers as soon as practicable on the same day of an unexplained student absence.

At 10 am the Administration Officer will send a text message to the parents of the student that is absent without a reason.
Students with unexplained absencesWhen a response is received, the Administration Officer will complete the follow-up on SIMON
Consistent absence - unsatisfactory attendance

The Administration Officer will inform the Principal by email about a student’s unsatisfactory attendance after 4 days. 

The Principal will make contact with the parents of a student with unsatisfactory attendance.

School ReportsStudent attendance will be recorded as a percentage on the Semester Report.
Attendance RemindersThe fortnightly newsletter will contain short bursts of attendance reminders. These are provided by Catholic Education Sandhurst.
