6C

By Robert Lou

Welcome to 6C, we are incredibly excited to share the beginning of our Term 3 Inquiry journey with you! Our focus is the guiding question of, “How are viewpoints influenced by digital technologies?” Specifically, we are exploring how digital technologies and Media Arts can be utilised to communicate a viewpoint or influence the viewpoints of others.

6C students have begun their learning with an exploration of different forms of Media Arts, such as film, animation, advertising, news reports, video games and so forth. While investigating these art forms, we analysed different Media Art elements, for instance, colour, sound, space, time and movement, and how they can be used and manipulated to influence the viewer.

Below you will find links to a short animation and video advertisement, along with what 6C’s students noticed when they analysed them. Will you notice the same things that we did? Please watch the videos and find out!

Coin Operated - Animated Short Film

Nartana: “The colour is one of the most important elements of this video as it shares the specific mood and emotions intended by the creator of the film. Bright colours share a happy and cheerful mood, like the boy’s optimism at the start.”
Dwisha: “This film is shown from the perspective of the boy who loves space. This is because the frame is always focused on him and the rest of the world is shown in an unimportant way.”

Cadbury Dairy Milk - Video Advertisement

Sethumi: “The colours were really dark and gloomy and the only thing that was bright in the ad was the purple Cadbury wrapper. I think the purpose was to make the chocolate stand out and more appealing for the viewer.”
Tiana: “The camera framing always focuses on the boy and the sad woman. The shots are always close up so it feels like we are right there. It is more relatable and there could be more connections made. Also, the absence of talking/music lets us focus more on the characters.”
