It has been an exciting start to Term Three for 1B. Learners explored fictional writing and deepened their understanding of how the structure beginning, middle, and ending  and key literary elements such as genre, characters, setting, problem and solution of narratives through reading twisted fairytales.

The Level One teacher’s performed ‘Little Red Riding hood’ as a writing prompt for learners to create their own ending! Deepening their writing by adding adjectives and descriptive language, learners thoughtfully engaged their readers. They evolved the problem within their narrative to worsen, before finally writing a solution to end their narrative.

Some examples of descriptive language are:

Sineysha: “First, wait ‘til the wolf comes and opens his big, wide stinky mouth. Then jump inside.”
Chloe: “Without warning, the woodcutter came in because he heard a scream. “Aaahhh.” Just at that moment, he knew someone needed help.”
Ashley: “The woodcutter was entering the house when he saw the wolf sleeping with a big tummy. He wondered why the wolf had a big tummy.”
Lucas: “The wolf was so full that his tummy almost exploded.”
Aryan: “The happy wolf chased the woodcutter to his house.”
