Kids Corner

The “Kids’ Corner” section of our school newsletter provides the opportunity for the children to showcase their talents or communicate something special. This fortnight I have taken the opportunity to share:

  • Jathy’s recount about her first excursion
  • Krishna’s drawings
  • The Year 4 students farewell and thank you speeches on their last day of camp
  • Patricks writing piece on Passenger Trains and
  • A poem from Logan.

Jathy (Year Prep)

Dear Mr Catalano,

How are you? We went to the museum this morning, we travelled from our school by bus. All of the prep students were very excited because it was our first excursion. I stayed with mu buddy Jamie. When we reached the museum, we lined up and walked quietly.

I saw many things like a blue whale skeleton, a dinosaur skeleton, bugs and a rainbow bird. I also saw a plane on the roof.

I was very happy.

Thank you, Mr Catalano, for letting us go to the museum.

Yours truly,

Jathy.

Krishna (Year 1)

Krishna loves to draw and recently whilst he was recovering from the cold, he decided to draw pictures of his favourite Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon characters from the kids movie ‘Sonic.’ Krishna drew pictures of:

  • Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Green Emerald
  • Tails and
  • Knuckles

Well done and thank you Krishna for sharing your amazing drawings, please keep up your passion for the visual arts as it is quite obvious that you have a natural talent in this area. Krishna’s drawings are attached for everyone’s enjoyment.

Year 4 children’s Camp Farewell Speech:

On behalf of Glen Waverley primary school, we would like to thank you for helping us have an amazing first camp experience. We were glad to spend our first experience here. You have helped us understand how so many activities worked, especially canoeing. Thank you for providing fun activities that allowed us to learn while we were here. Your camp helped us build connections with people in other classes.

As for the chefs, thank you for making delicious food for us. We enjoyed every meal we had. We were able to connect these foods to our cultures and backgrounds. Thank you for making time to prepare food for people with allergies and dietary requirements, we know there were many. We could tell how much effort you put into the food as it was good. Thank you for taking the time to feed all 115 hungry students and giving our 12 teachers extra food.

We would also like to thank the staff members of GWPS, for sacrificing your time to plan this wonderful camp. We know some have left your families back in Melbourne to be here with us and we truly appreciate for that. We would also like to thank you for your support to run and help with all the fantastic activities at camp. Thank you for organising DJ Lee and MC Poppenfresh for our disco and organising a movie for us to enjoy. Thank you for taking our thoughts into consideration when planning our bunks. Thank you for taking the time to answer our hundreds of questions, it made us feel very prepared for camp. Thank you for always checking in with us.

In conclusion we would like to thank all the adults for helping us on our first camp.

Logan (Year 5) – Poem

The waves crash on the sandy rocks,
Wearing away the guardian of the beach.
The shattered crumbs of the rock becoming one with, It’s fallen comrades, joining the sand.

The rocks top half erodes and crashes down, It breaks into a million pieces, all of it rolling into the churning sea.
The sea is dyed a granite brown, making it a murderer.
The waves turn back, retreating from the scene without being found.

The remnants of the shattered rock,
Weeps for it’s lost one, the tears blend it with the ocean, The turquoise glint dropping down, It’s tears being memorialised in the sea.

The ocean had no remorse, or regret.
In its foamy swirly shadow, at the dark seabed, The rock would never be seen again… Soon the bottom half will follow.
