Take note

A few reminders for the start of Term 3:

Road safety

With students back to school, please remember to be extra careful when driving around school zones.

We kindly ask that parents and carers be mindful of the College's drop-off and pick-up procedures, which are outlined on our website here. In particular, we wish to stress the following:

  • Stay alert, especially if driving during peak drop-off and pick-up times.
  • Choose a safe place to pull over and ensure passengers can get out of the car safely, without impacting traffic. Children being dropped off or picked up near bus stops should be collected from the same side of the road as the bus, a safe distance away.
  • Speak to your children about road safety. Remind them to always 'stop, look, listen and think' when crossing a driveway, road or car park. Always hold the hands of younger children when crossing the road, and use pedestrian crossings where possible.
  • To avoid any unnecessary parking tickets, please note that Harrington Street is a 'no standing' zone and parking officers conduct random checks throughout the day.

Cathedral building works

The St Mary's Cathedral car park and Patrick/Harrington Street entry points are currently off limits due to building works at the site.

To ensure the safety and wellbeing of our community, we ask that parents, carers and students please avoid this area, including accessing the College via the carpark and driveway between the Cathedral and the College, while the works are being completed.

We thank you for your patience and understanding.

School photos, take two!

Dig out the shoe polish and get those combs and hairspray bottles at-the-ready—our school photo retake day will take place on Thursday 3 August and we would like everyone to look picture-perfect!

As was communicated in Issue 9 of The Fountain (15 June 2022), all class photos for Prep to Year 12 will be retaken on this day. This excludes individual portrait photos and the Kinder class photos.

If your child is in Year 3-12, please ensure they wear their correct formal school uniform, including appropriate hair and jewellery. Students who have HPE on this day are asked to bring their PE gear to school to change into.

If you need to brush up on the College's uniform guidelines and expectations, please refer to the uniform handbook on our website here.

And, of course, don't forget those mega-watt smiles. Say cheese!

COVID-19 absentees

We would like to take this opportunity to remind parents and carers of the process for reporting a COVID-19 absentee.

If your child has tested positive for COVID-19, please report the absence on our website here and complete the COVID-19 case report form when prompted.

For reporting general student absentees, please notify the College as soon as possible via the following methods:

Phone: Student Services Office (03) 6108 2560

SMS: 0437 996 701

Email: stmarys@smc.tas.edu.au

Website: Complete the 'Report an Absence' form online here.

Planting the seed for National Tree Day

Lend your green thumb to National Tree Day.
Lend your green thumb to National Tree Day.

This Sunday 31 July is National Tree Day—a call to action for all Australians to get their hands dirty and give back to their community.

By planting more trees, together we will create a greener, cooler and more liveable future. What's not to like about that!

If you're feeling inspired to get stuck in the garden and plant a tree with your family (we know we will be), we warmly invite to share your photos with us by emailing Community Relations at communications@smc.tas.edu.au. Happy planting!
