Congratulations to the following students:

Chloe Broomhall and Mia Anderson (Year 9) who, during the school holidays, competed in the U16 Australian Basketball Championships held in Perth, Western Australia.

Proudly representing their home state, Chloe and Mia's team was up against some fierce competition, with 13 teams battling for the top spot, but our Tasmanian reps played well, finishing in 7th place. What a fantastic and well-deserved achievement! You have both worked very hard for this opportunity and should be very proud of your success.

Mackenzie Thomas (Year 9), who recently travelled to Byron Bay, New South Wales to compete in the Junior Golf Championships. That's so impressive, Mackenzie! Well done.

Australian Geography Competition Awards 2022

We congratulate the many St Mary's College students who chose to participate in the 2022 Australian Geography Competition, which was held online during Term 2.

The competition, which is open to Australian secondary school students, assesses geographical knowledge and skills, with the aim to encourage student interest in geography and reward student excellence.

It was pleasing to see a high participation rate across Year 7-11 for this year's competition. Nearly 70,000 students from across Australia entered the competition, with 21 St Mary's students receiving a Credit or above. These results give us an external benchmark as to how our students are tracking in certain aspects of geography, which is also valuable.

A special mention must go to the following students on their excellence performance.

Of particular note was Rozalia Arnold (Year 7) and Chloe Riley (Year 8) who both received High Distinctions. A commendable effort!
