2021 Marine Ambassadors

‘i sea, i care’ is an award-winning, innovative leadership and communication program for primary schools. It was developed by the Dolphin Research Institute to show Victorians that "what lives around our coast is too precious to lose". Over 100 schools and more than 600 ambassadors have been active participants throughout 2021. More than 4,500 students have been Ambassadors since the program began.

Each school chooses up to four Ambassadors to attend one workshop each term, where they learn about the value of our marine environment and how to teach the wider community how to care for it. The successful candidates who wrote their applications from our school were Lola, Maddie, Emma and Anastasia in Year 5. This year was a particularly challenging one to fulfill all the components of this leadership opportunity.

The final Workshop was on Tue 30th Dec when the CEPS Marine Ambassadors got up close to the amazing and unique marine life that lives in Victoria. This workshop marked the end of the journey for our school’s ambassadors Lola, Maddie, Emma and Anastasia. The weather was perfect, but the water deceptively icy! The students travelled to Sorrento to snorkel with the wildlife, including sea dragons and fur seals and were treated with sightings of 3 different pods of whales from the Moonraker vessel. Our thanks go to parents Ben (Lola) and Cam (Maddie) for accompanying the group on the day with Mrs Ward.

Throughout the year the remotely conducted workshops included Catchments, Litter and Pollution modules. Ambassadors discovered the link between inland areas and the bays through rivers, creeks and drains. The human impact was explored through litter surveys and collections, learning about storm water harvesting and investigating the invertebrate diversity of wetlands. Coastal Management included learning how the coast has been cared for, by people (and animals) for 50000 years, how the focus has changed and how we care for it going into the future. Each year the Marine Ambassadors share their new knowledge with the junior classes at school.

We look forward to having more opportunities in the future to share important environmental information which affects us all and to offer leadership experiences at CEPS.

Values Ambassadors

Our 4 Values at Cheltenham East PS are Responsibility, Co-operation, Respect and Courtesy, the students below have shown one or more of these values.  The students are given a raffle ticket for each Value that they show.  The raffle tickets are then drawn out at assembly and  below are our lucky students, who now choose a prize.

Congratulations to all students for showing our 4 values.
