Year 10 VCAL students celebrate Literacy and Numeracy achievements last week!
On November 26, Year 10 VCAL students gathered in the gym to celebrate their achievements in Pre-VCAL Literacy and Numeracy. It was an occasion to acknowledge the extraordinary efforts of all Year 10 VCAL students. Students received a certificate of achievement in recognising their academic excellence in working towards and achieving a variety of literacy and numeracy outcomes. Ms. Haynes, our principal was invited to the event and gave all students an inspiring speech and a handshake to make the event just a little more special.
We wish our Year 10 VCAL students as they embark on their learning journeys in 2022!

Special Project
At Lyndhurst Secondary College, we believe it is essential to strive for reconciliation. We have been working on an Indigenous art mural on the English Block stairs. Our project involves Indigenous students and community members. It will feature everyday terms and a pronunciation guide based on our local Indigenous language. We hope to have students and staff members utilise these terms when conversing with one another. Intercultural capability is an essential part of living with others in the diverse world of the twenty-first century. Keep an eye out for next year for the completed mural!
Thank you to Phoenix, Russel, Josh, Kai, Cooper, Yasemin, Miss Thay, Miss Dang and Miss Honeysett for all their help and support with this project.
Cooking up a Storm in the Kitchen!
Since the return to face to face classes in Term 4, the Lyndhurst food tech kitchens have been in full swing and the students have been cooking up a storm. The year 8 students have focused on the food groups producing different items to support their learning, such as fried rice for grains and cereals, sausage rolls for meat and apple and rhubarb crumble for fruit, just to name a few. Year 8 students also put the design process to the test when developing their designs in response to the Smoothies design challenge.
Year 9 students have been looking at the factors that influence food choices and alternatives to fast food. They have made herb crusted fish and vegetable chips, bean nachos, homemade falafel's in pita bread and lamb and vegetable pasties. They used the design process to design and produce their own pancakes.
The VCE orientation student have started off unit 1 focusing on the history of food including the hunter gatherers. They also completed practical activities using ancient grains to produce a crusty grain and seed loaf.
In the coming week, the students will finish off the year with festive cooking ready for Christmas.

Year 9 Student Reflection
We are one step closer to our goals in our journey through cooking. As one collective class, we have chosen what our hearts desire in the kitchen - from rich, delicious desserts to home cooked comforting warm meals. During our recent cooking class, we decided to put our own spin on a pizza, turning it into our special pizza with a variety of toppings. The light crispy dough, topped with fresh tomato sauce and numerous toppings of our choice, was cooked to perfection. The delicious aroma of freshly baked dough, with a hint of many spices and herbs, was amazing. Every dish we make inside the school’s kitchen with Miss Noulikas is a magical dish.
