During week 7, students have been practicing writing persuasive letters and have begun planning and drafting their leadership application. Students were provided with a key selection criteria and were encouraged to use AFOREST and TEEEL when writing their application. During week 8, students will complete and submit their applications. Throughout the remainder of the week we will continue with a persuasive focus.
In Reading, students have been exploring persuasive devices in letters to support them with their upcoming leadership applications. They have used the acronym - AFOREST - Alliteration, Facts, Opinions, Repetition and Rhetorical Questions, Exaggeration and Emotive Language, Statistics and Three (rule of) to identify these features and examples in different texts.
In week 7 in numeracy, we started a new unit on angles. Students investigated angles in sporting situations using pictures of Olympic athletes. They explored all different types of angles including; acute, obtuse, reflex and right angles. Students found angles in the classroom and measured them using protractors. This week, students will continue exploring angles and will focus on comparing angles within shapes.
In Inquiry we have been delving into what it means to work in a team and be a leader. Teamwork and Leadership relate directly to our Unit of Inquiry "Who We Are". Students have been exploring leadership skills generally and forming personal connections to the leadership skills they currently exhibit or may develop. Students will be drawing upon their strengths and experiences during the leadership application process.
