12C - Around the Traps

Josh Carr

Literacy

This week we have been working on a book/film study of the classic Paul Jennings tale “Spaghetti Pig Out” doing different reading and writing activities. We read the story and did some writing on the different pranks we would pull if we had that magic remote.  We then watched the “Round The Twist” version of the story and did some comparing and contrasting of the show versus the book.  Students also had a lot of fun making their own magic remotes.

Maths

Maths focus this week is has been doing some revision of addition and subtraction.  Students also did a measuring task linked with our literacy focus on Spaghetti Pig Out.  Using spaghetti students measured themselves and other objects around the class to see how long they were in spaghetti. The results were al dente.

Inquiry

Our Inquiry Unit this term is about Stimulating Science. Students will consider changes that we experience in our lives through the lens of four different branches of science including; biology, earth and space science, chemistry, and physics. They will make predictions and scientific observations as they conduct experiments. Each student will show what they have learnt by identifying 'science' in their house and recording their understanding of each branch of science.

RE (Religious Education)

Our RE Unit is focusing on Advent and the build-up to Christmas.  Recount the story of the first Christmas. Know that Christmas is a time when together we thank God for the birth of Jesus. Know that Christmas is a time of giving, receiving and celebrating in our family, school and parish.

Transition Day

While it wasn’t a big change, the students and I had a great day getting a feel for our new room and having a go at a few different activities. The day was made special through a focus on Paul Jennings and his awesome story ‘Spaghetti Pig Out’. We all enjoyed the story, did Spaghetti Maths, made Remote Controls to control others and finally watched the ‘Around the Twist’ version that had us all in stitches.
