During Term 2 the whole school has continued to explore the concept of forces in a unit of work titled Toy Story. They have investigated the big question of what forces their toy used to work successfully.

In Foundation to Grade 2, the students have designed and made several toys that use a 'push', 'pull' or 'push/pull' force to move. They have built spinning tops, hoop gliders, marble mazes and kites. Recently the Grade 1-2 students have further investigated the idea of modifying their original hoop glider design through the use of a variation and back-to-back testing. Through testing, using informal units of measurement, they have discovered whether the modification improved or made worse their original design.

Exploring this process helps to consolidate the idea that the Engineering Design Process helps them solve problems through a rigorous process of fair testing, improvement and re-testing.
