Year 1 Team

Year 1: Half way through!

We are almost half way through our year together and the students have been working really hard in all of the classes. Every student has demonstrated some amazing resilience in working to the best of their abilities each and every day.

Here are some experiences and learning that we have enjoyed lately!

Grade 1/2 excursion to McCrae Homestead.

On Monday the 22nd and Tuesday the 23rd of May, the Year 1s and 2s went for an excursion to McCrae Homestead.

We boarded the bus and made the 1 hour long trip down to McCrae. When we stepped off the bus we were transported back in time to the 1840s when the McCrae family established the homestead and farming land. Throughout the day we explored the historical artifacts within the house, churned some butter, played olden day games and listened to stories about the past.

The students asked many inquisitive questions and came away with a better understanding of life in the past.

During this term the students have been developing their understanding of Narrative Writing and working on creating their own stories. We have been learning about characters and settings and how to utilise adjectives to describe these elements of our writing. The students have produced some really good stories and interesting characters that have kept the readers engaged!

During Maths over these past few weeks, our learning experiences have been about Addition and Subtraction. Students have used materials in the classroom to help them build their understanding of the different strategies to add and subtract. Number patterns has also been a focus this term with the students applying their growing pattern knowledge to make displays to show others.

Our Resilience Project sessions have been focusing on our Emotional Literacy where the students have been identifying different emotions they feel, what they’re called (Happy, Sad, Excited, Angry etc.) and discussing different strategies of how to deal and work with these emotions each day.

It’s been an exciting and busy first half of the year and we look forward to the learning experiences we have for the rest of this term and into next term!
