Tournament of Minds Workshop

Academic Excellence Program

Our students were lucky enough to recently attend a workshop run by the Director of Tournament of Minds. She was able to impart some of her expertise to the students about how to think differently and more creatively when approaching challenges.  They were asked, “How do you weigh a plane with scales?” and gave many great answers, however, no one thought of her answer, “the same as you would weigh a plane without scales”. To think of a plane looking like a fish was the very thing we needed to get the students creativity flowing.

The students were taught Edward De Bono’s Six Thinking Hats process which will allow them when working in groups to plan thinking processes in a detailed and cohesive way, and in doing so to think together more effectively. I am excited to see what the students come up with in their next project with this new found knowledge.
