Teaching and Learning

Science - STEM Hub

At Woodville Gardens we are fortunate to have a Resource Centre to use as an additional teaching and learning space for students. Up to now it has mainly been used as a Library space. Students of course have access an extensive range of fiction and non-fiction in the common areas libraries and these areas are very popular with students to borrow daily and access personalised reading spaces.

With Science as a mandated subject R-6 we will be developing the Resource Centre as a STEM Hub for 2024 and beyond. There will be space for some book borrowing still as well as access to Lexile texts and teacher resources. The rest of the space will be a creative STEM learning space.

We already have a great range of 3D printers, Beebots, Makey Makey and Spheros and want to provide a space for classes to come together to develop their critical thinking skills.

Teachers in Years 3-5 have started working with students to explore the skills needed to be scientists, engineers or designers. We have started collected student voice about how science and technology is, and could be, taught at our school. Students have looked at  what scientists and engineers do, and looked at some examples of STEM tasks that can be done at school to develop creativity and problem solving skills.
