Feast of the Sacred Heart

This week we will celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart.  This is an important celebration for our school as we were founded on the traditions of the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart.  Our house teams also have strong connections to Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in the names they are given.  Chevalier ( Blue team) is named for Jules Chevalier who helped start the order of nuns.  Hartzer ( Red team) is named after Marie Lousie Hartzer who was the first leader of the order.

MacKillop ( Green Team) is named for Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop who founded the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart and Xavier ( Yellow Team) is named for St Francis Xavier who also had special connections to the Sacred Heart.

Students from OLSH will visit our school to celebrate the feast day with us and participate in activities to strengthen ties between our schools who all have links to the OLSH sisters.

It is important for all Catholic schools to remember their origins and celebrate appropriately.

Sacrament of Confirmation and Holy Communion.

We congratulate all the students who are participating in the Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Communion next week.

The students have prepared faithfully and can now look forward to receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit and the grace and peace of Christ through these Sacraments of initiation into the Catholic Church.

Moore Street Centre

Children are making soup in their Mentoring groups over the next few months.  Each group makes soup on a Wednesday with either Mrs Sparapani or Mr Meixner.

The soup is taken to the Moore Street Centre for homeless persons in the city.  The children are enjoying their turn of making soup and the generous donations of ingredients mean we can make more soup to help others.

The Moore Street centre is also looking for donations of beanies, gloves, warm socks and scarves.  Any quality, warm clothes donations are also accepted.

If you would like to donate such items they can be brought to the school office for collection.

Thank you to all the generous families who have made donations, your efforts are most welcome.

Regards

Bernie Meixner
