We had some terrific individual results on the day.

Sophie (Girls 12 yo) and Youzhen (Girls 11yo) both ran magnificently and won their division! They will go on to represent the District at the Regional Carnival.

Eden had a great run and came in fourth in the Girls 11 yo event and will also go on to represent the District.

Mitchell (12 yo Boys) came 9th, Eva (11yo Girls) came 10th and Amrutha (11 yo Girls) came 12th all had great runs just missing out on representative spots.

Well done team on a fantastic result. Your hard training work paid off.

STEAM News

Foundation students have been learning about rainbows. We spoke about how you need the sun and water droplets to form rainbows. Student also learnt the words ‘indigo’ and ‘violet’. We then had fun taking part in a Skittles colour run experiment.

Year 1 students finally finished their ‘magnificent creations’ where they used recycled materials to make an item that they selected. We had lots of robots, computers and a boat with a crane!

Year 4 students had fun coding the Blue Bots via Bluetooth on the iPads. They coded the Blue Bots to move around different mats, like the map of Australia and an underwater scene.

After researching the three main design elements which go into designing earthquake resistant buildings, Year 6 students took part in a challenge to create an earthquake resistant structure. Their structures made from toothpicks and mini marshmallows were then tested for their strength on a shake table.

They were introduced to vocabularies reflecting Korean and Australian culture and shared their learnings with Korean students in Daegu, South Korea through the video conferencing.

Premiers Reading Challenge

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and Ormond Primary School is excited to be participating. The PRC application offers a range of exciting features including:

  • access to a library catalogue (including book images and blurbs)
  • a modern user-friendly interface
  • rewarding students with badges as challenge milestones are achieved
  • the option for students to mark books as a favourite, give them a star rating or complete a book review

The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 8 September 2023. Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books. All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers. To read the Premier’s letter to parents, view the booklist and for more information about the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge, visit: https://www.vic.gov.au/premiers-reading-challenge We would like as many children as possible to participate in the Challenge. If your child would like to take part, please ask them talk to their class teacher to receive their username and password. You will then be able to access the website and begin logging books. This is the website to login: Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge (eduweb.vic.gov.au) You or your child will need to click on VPRC login and then add the username and password.
