Excursions & Incursions

Year 1 Excursion to Melbourne Zoo

On Thursday 25th May, our Year One students became Wildlife Explorers! They went on their first excursion to the Melbourne Zoo to explore and learn about animals’ habitats and how to care and respect them. The students were so excited to get onto the bus and head off for a day at the zoo. They were very lucky to have the wet rainy weather hold off until the end of the day. Students had the opportunity to explore and see lots of different animals and their habitats with some favourites being the butterfly house and the trail of the elephants.

Upon arriving back at school students were able to fill their Writers Notebooks with lots of seeds of things they had seen throughout the day. We used our seeds to help develop some ideas for writing. Here are some student pieces of work they have written using their seeds as inspiration.

Year 3/4 visit to Melbourne Museum

Last week, the Year Three and Year Four students visited the Melbourne Museum and IMAX. This term the students are exploring Science through the concepts: Science knowledge helps people to understand the effects of their actions. The Earth’s rotation on its axis causes regular changes. In order to further develop this understanding, they visited four exhibits including the 600 Million Years Exhibition, Gondwana Garden, Dynamic Earth Exhibition, and a Triceratops Exhibition.

The students then put on their 3D glasses and were excited to view the IMAX film titled A Beautiful Planet where they had a 3D view of Earth from a space shuttle. Fun was had by students, teachers and parent helpers.

Prep Fire Education Incursion

Over the past two Thursdays, our Prep students were lucky enough to participate in Fire Education incursions run by firefighters form the Brooklyn Fire Station. Our students were engaged in an information session, where they learned how to identify fire risks and how to keep safe in an emergency, including  to 'Crawl down low and go go go!'. The fire engine came along for the second session, and all students had the opportunity to use the fire hose and walk through the engine.

Thanks to the firefighters from Brooklyn Fire Station for such engaging incursions.

1:1 Device Program

ATTENTION YEAR 3 PARENTS - 1:1 DEVICE PROGRAM

As many of you may know, we run a 1:1 ICT Device Program for students in years 4 - 6. In the past this program has been referred to as the 1:1 MacBook Program, however last year we added the option of an iPad with a keyboarf, and consequently we will now be referring to a 1:1 Device Program.

In order for all devices to be ready in time for your child/ren, as they move into Year 4, 2024, we will begin this ordering process towards the end of Term 3. However, do not panic - there is nothing for you to do yet! We are simply front loading you, so that you are not caught unaware when we commence detailed communication about this process in the coming weeks.

End of Term 2: We will share some written communication with you about the history of our 1:1 Device Program and what to expect with regards the ordering process.

Term 3: We will share further information about the 1:1 Device Program and will hold an Information Session, after which we will open orders.

Keep an eye out in the next Newsletter, when we will share the first round of detailed information.
