Year 10 Careers Camp

Michael Harms

Our Year 10’s spent three days in Melbourne and Geelong exploring career options, touring industries, visiting Universities and Tafes and learning to navigate around Melbourne using public transport. The following photos and descriptions hopefully will give you a good idea of the experience.

The ‘CBD Challenge’ was the first task on camp for students. They had to make their way around the CBD and sign in with teachers at places like the State Library and the top of the Eureka Tower.

Our first night was the Careers Dinner with old Collegians. Emma Kearney was guest speaker. Fourteen other old Collegians from the Classes of 2019 and 2020 joined us and lead a speed careers event where they spoke on rotation to different groups of students. It was a great night.

Tuesday was our ‘Industry Day.’ Students had a variety of industries they could visit to consider career opportunities.

Tuesday night students had a night out. Hopefully students appreciated living in Melbourne is not just about work but about the many other things it has to offer.

Students also visited tertiary institutions, including Melbourne University, Newman College, Deakin University Geelong and The Gordon Tafe.

Fair to say it was a tiring but extremely rewarding camp. Thanks to all who made it possible and a big thanks to our students who, through their combined efforts, made it a camp to remember.
