GRIP Conference

Some of our student voice leaders from years 7 - 12 attended the GRIP conference at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre of the 29th March. Students came away with new skills and ideas to make a positive change at our school.  Students attended different sessions that taught them new skills in being a leader. It was fantastic watching all our leaders get to know each other.

ANZAC Day

Our School Captains represented Lyndhurst Secondary College at the Cranbourne ANZAC Day service by laying a wreath at the ceremony on behalf of our school community.

We also had an ANZAC Day assembly on the first day of school where we were privileged to have Mark Osbourne from the Dandenong Cranbourne RSL talk to the school about the importance of ANZAC Day. Mark served in the Army serving in the Air Defence Regiment and the Commandos.

Student Action Groups

Our Year 7-10 Student Leaders were involved in the first session of the Student Action Groups.  Students will choose a project that will benefit the school community and work in groups to use various strategies to make the project happen.  Our students leaders will be involved in more sessions during the term which will focus on their leadership skills.

VYL Excursion

Last term some of our young leaders attended Melbourne University, here some more photos of them enjoying Hot Cross Buns offered by University Students .

The State Youth Leadership Conference took place at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. Students mostly from the Year 10 cohort were invited to partake in a program with the Leadership theme, “Reaching new heights.” The program brought together influential young leaders who shared their skills and confidence on how to make changes in schools and in their community. When interviewed about the event, here were some of the students response to the event:

“I was grateful for the chance to go to the conference because I would like to be a leader but, I think I would like to build my confidence when speaking in front of my peers but also learn how to make better choices so I can be more successful in the future, especially when leading others.” Agnes 16

“I am going to try to feed my courage, instead of my fear” I’m very shy and I don’t really like speaking in front of large groups, but this year I want to improve my confidence by using any opportunity to present in front of a large group.” Stewart 15

“I heard a lot of good points at the conference but the things that stood out for me was; that “Leaders are Learners …” and that we need to believe in ourselves and trust everyone that works in the team. I would like to be the type of leader that is honest and is a positive role model in the Community.” Jayvan 15

The event ended with a positive outcome for all the attendees.

Thank you again to Ms. Keating for choosing us for this event, and to Mark Ioane from Le Mana who drove us to the City.
