Careers Update
Can you believe we are nearing the halfway mark to Term 2! Topics in this newsletter include Year 10: Work Experience, Year 12: VTAC Application update, Year 12: University Early Offers, University Open Days
Year 10: Work Experience
With Work Experience week just 4 weeks away, there is quite a bit of background work to be done. There are still several students that have not handed in their forms or come to see me prior to the deadline. Please note that any students who have not returned their forms by the extended (very late) deadline will be expected at school in full school uniform during Week 9. The extended deadline is Friday 19 May.
In the coming weeks, your placement will be confirmed with the employer via phone by Ms Smith. During Week 6, the employer will be emailed a copy of relevant forms and advised of prohibited activities for students on work experience. Prior to Week 8 all students will complete safe@work training and certification.
The Work Experience Preparation Booklet and Work Experience Checklist are both posted on the N-Block Careers Notice Board for student reference.
Year 12: VTAC Application update
VTAC have announced that 2024 Applications will also require a USI to be provided. Students who have enrolled in or completed a VET course will already have a USI.
For any students who don’t have a USI, it can easily be obtained. One of the following forms of ID will be required:
Australian passport
Australian birth certificate
Australian Drivers licence
Medicare card
For students who don’t have a USI - click this link: https://www.usi.gov.au/students/get-a-usi
For students who are not sure/can’t remember their USI - click this link: https://www.usi.gov.au/students/find-your-usi
VTAC have also shared a link to Information slides for 2023 VCE Students and Parents:

There is a lot of information in these slides, most of which I have discussed with year 12 students in the Term 1 careers meeting. This information was also presented at the recent VCE & Careers Expo seminar. A number of year 12 students attended this seminar and found the information very useful.
Year 12: University Early Offers
In the individual meetings with Year 12 students in Term 1, we discussed University Early Offers. Some universities offer an opportunity to apply for selected courses before ATAR results are released. There are different conditions under which a place may be offered in a university course and not all courses at the university are included in the Early Offer Program.
First step is identifying which course you wish to undertake at which university and then check if it is on the Early Offers list. Prerequisite subject conditions will still need to be met and in some cases additional conditions will also need to be met (eg: writing submission/essay, art work/folio, audition, interview). However, it can certainly be liberating to know that you have a place already offered in a course you are interested in before you even sit your exams!
I have included links below to some of the universities and the program they offer. Please take note of the closing dates.

University Open Days
The end of term 2 will be fast upon us. That means University Open Days! At the VCE & Careers Expo we were able to collect the course guides and speak to some of the representatives of the universities.
Open days allow us the opportunity to go on campus and speak directly to the faculty that teach the courses as well as students currently undertaking the courses. This is where students will have the opportunity to ask the hard questions and get much more detailed information about the courses they are interested in undertaking next year.
I will be posting the Open day dates as they come to hand - both in the newsletter and also on the N-Block Careers Notice Board.
