Principal’s Report

 Dear families and carers,

Last Thursday and Friday, I had the pleasure of attending the Victorian Principal’s Association’s conference.  There were many highlights over the two days, most memorable being the excitement of all being able to reconnect with each other as colleagues and rekindle old, as well as build new friendships.

Each of our keynote speakers offered insights for both professional and personal growth.  We heard from Dr Adam Fraser, who opened the conference and it was wonderful to connect to the work he has been undertaking and highlight the importance of recovery.  As school leaders we often understand this but fail to act on it.  The evidence is clear through his work and the research of many others; those little moments of recovery, daily, weekly and monthly make a difference.  We need to become much clearer in our profession of the boundaries between work and home, and hold the line on this to ensure our wellbeing.

Kath Koschel- Wow! What an inspiring story Kath had.  Most importantly her work encourages us to look very differently at how we see the world, especially the importance of delivering acts of kindness.  Kath focused on the importance of Kindness in all we do.  We investigated the Kindness Factory which Kath spoke about and looked at how the kindness curriculum may work within our school.

Father’s Day

While Fathers’ Day is a celebration of fatherhood, it is a time for us to honour, celebrate and to be thankful for all the men, father figures and male role models in our lives… including our dads, grandads, uncles, grandfathers, godfathers, father-figures and even our male teachers. We recognise the very important role you have in the lives of children.

Thank you to all the dads in our school community and we wish you a wonderful Father’s Day on Sunday. May your day be filled with laughter coupled with the smiles and love of those closest to you.

A big thank you to Chris, Bec, Tamie, Gary, Andrew, Vicki and PnC who were also involved in preparing and running our successful Father’s Day stall, and raffle, and all our families that donated goods.  Thank you also to George, Bridget for making our coffees this morning, and to all the parents cooking and serving the sausages and assisting this morning. We are very fortunate to have such an active parent’s group.

Open Streets

It was great to see everyone out for our second Open Street Day today.  We had so many children and families walk or ride to school, and our bike shed was full this morning.

Blair Street was full of children, members of council and families having lots of fun!  Our teachers also got into the fun!  Thank you to Costa for setting up the activities today and to Sengul for taking lots of photos of the event.

Enrol now for 2023

Our prep numbers for 2023 are creeping up and Hana and I have been conducting numerous tours for new families keen to enrol their child in our school for 2023. A reminder to our current families who have a child who will turn 5 by 30 April 2023, that now is the time to complete enrolment papers. We are happy to send an enrolment pack home with an older child so call the office and ask for help from our wonderful office team.

BOOK WEEK 20-26th August 2022

Last week Moreland Primary School celebrated Book Week.

On the Monday we launched the week with a book parade where students were encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character. Students were very creative with their costumes and had a fantastic time parading their costume in front of the rest of the school. There was a student selected from each year level to receive one of the shortlisted books. It was a difficult decision to only pick one with so many wonderful costumes worn on the day. The students who were selected were: Foundation - Jack Karaman FB, Grade 1 - Loretta Rice 1B , Grade 2 - Charlotte Rean 2A, Grade 3/4 - Murphy Fidler 3/4B, Grade 5/6 - Miro Fitzgerald 5/6.

On the Wednesday we had a whole school celebration where different year levels joined together to share a love of reading and complete an activity linked to this year’s theme. Our Foundation students worked with the Grade 5/6 students and the Grade 1/2 students worked with the 3/4 students.  Students participated in an activity inspired by the book "What Do You Wish For?" By Jane Godwin. They created a wishing star to showcase their own individual wishes.

Classroom teachers read and discussed various shortlisted books throughout the week and students were given the opportunity to complete follow up activities. It was a wonderful week celebrating and appreciating the shortlisted book Authors and Illustrators.

Wear it Purple Day

Last Friday we celebrated Wear it Purple Day. It was a great opportunity to

It was great to see lots of students wearing purple accessories and showing their support and allyship for our rainbow families.

A big thank you to the dedicated 5/6 students who helped put the day together, including the making of purple woollen wristbands (over 400 of them!) and then gave them to students at lunchtime.

This day was a great reminder that  EVERYONE is welcome at our school and ALL STUDENTS deserve to feel safe and loved. Thank you to the families that participated and helped make this happen.
