Student Leadership

Koonung Interact Club

Interact is one of the many lunchtime clubs that students can be involved in.  Interact stands for International Action. It is a kind of junior Rotary Club for young people in secondary schools. All Interact Clubs are part of the Rotary International organisation and every club must be sponsored by a Rotary Club. At Koonung we are sponsored by MASH (Mont Albert and Surrey Hills Rotary). Interact provides our students  with the opportunity to take on issues that helps the school or community and one that promotes international understanding.  At least two members from Rotary attend the lunchtime meetings to provide guidance to the students.

Peace Pole program

To mark the Centenary of Rotary in Australia, the Rotary Club of Canberra Burley Griffin, ACT, set a goal to see 100 Peace Poles donated to 100 schools to recognise 100 years of Rotary service in Australia. This goal has been achieved through collaboration with schools, organisations and Rotary clubs around Australia.

The Peace Pole program, which had its beginnings after the Second World War in 1955, was developed by the World Peace Prayer Society founder, Masahisa Goi. Now, more than 250,000 Peace Poles stand in approximately 200 countries around the globe, symbolising the common wish for a world at peace.

The Peace Pole at KSC was donated by the Rotary Club of Mont Albert and Surrey Hills and on Thursday afternoon the student leaders, Sandra Greenhill and Val Crees from MASH Rotary, gathered on behalf of the college community to reaffirm our commitment to peace, locally and globally, and especially in our relationship with each other and in our community.

Interact Trivia Night

After a two-year hiatus, the Koonung Interact Club Trivia Night was back on September 2nd. Boasting five rounds of questions based on separate decades, the 70s to the 2010s, the trivia night was a huge success. Thank you to club presidents Viraj Patel, Helen Ball and Katherine Hadji-Michael as well as all the amazing members of the club for running such a smooth night and raising over $1200 for Australian Rotary Health Lift the Lid - funding a university scholarship research into Mental Health.
