Science

This week in Science:
Foundation, Year 1 & Year 2
We concluded our materials unit with a lesson using modelling clay (plasticine). Students used the clay to make models and a ‘change story’. They considered the properties of clay and how these are important for the task of modelling. Once their model was completed, they drew it, and wrote about how they changed the clay from a ball into the model.
Students discovered that clay needs to be warmed to make it pliable. Once softened it can be rolled, stretched, folded, squashed, stretched, twisted…and turned into something creative.
Year 3/4 & 5/6
Students have been collating their results from the consumer science investigation into Paper Towel and Hand Soaps. They created slides shows, posters and websites to present their findings.
So far Zero Co and Thankyou. hand soap are looking to be superior based on their smell, environmental impact and bubbliness.
In the paper towel stakes Wipex Icare has proven to be popular. It is environmentally friendly as well as absorbent and extremely durable.
