Congratulations Tia!

The Bimbadeen community sends a huge congratulations to Tia in Year 6 who was part of the Victorian School Sport AFL 12 Years and Under Girls team who won the Australian School Sport Championship, held in Adelaide a few weeks ago. Tia was also selected as Vice-Captain of the team and helped lead her team to victory.

We are so proud of our Bimbadeen students when they achieve their personal best and reach their goals. It was fantastic to share Tia‘s achievement with our community at our assembly last week. Ms Schie has interviewed Tia about the competition and her experience, and you can read more about it below:

Interview with Tia, AFL Champion

What competition were you competing in and where did you go?

I was competing in the SSV/School Sport Australia football championships up in Adelaide, competing for Victoria

What was the process of making it into the team?

So first before the team was selected there were 2 tryouts with over 150 girls from all over trying out. Then they chose 2 teams a Vic White team and a Vic Blue team to play off to pick the final 24 spots in the team. Then the final teams were selected over email on livestream.

How did the team perform?

I think my team performed amazing and worked really hard together to reach out goal we set which was to win. We were communicating well and becoming very good friends.

What were some personal achievements?

Being selected, being selected vice-captain, playing other states of Australia and being the first 12s and under girls Vic team.

What were some highlights of the experience?

Being asked to be vice-captain, playing footy with two of my best friends, meeting other great footballers, making new friends.

What is something you learned from this experience?

What to do before to prepare yourself before a footy match. How to become a better footballer.

What advice would you give to students who want to be selected for teams like this or students who want to improve their game (in any sport)?

Hard work, focus, dedication and discipline.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

It was a great experience and a great bunch of footballers and coaches. Thanks a lot for a great tournament girls.

Celebrating the work of our incredible students!

A highlight of our week is when students share their learning successes with us. Over the past fortnight, many students have visited the office to share a fabulous piece of work and talk about the progress they have made towards their learning goals. We are so proud of how our Bimbadeen students are always striving to achieve their potential and explore new ideas and creativity along the way.

Jaxon created his own Indigenous Pokemon Characters after exploring Indigenous perspectives in class as part of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day earlier this month. He conducted his own research and have each of his characters names and items that reflected Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander customs.

Ruhi, Addison, Lani, Anaye, and Jasmine were delighted to share their writing with us this week. Our Foundation students are currently exploring an Author study on the texts by Australian Author Mem Fox. They used a line from Koala Lou, ‘Koala Lou, I do love you!’, and composed their own sentence to describe what they love, using their own ideas and ideas from the text.

We look forward to sharing more of the incredible work of our students in coming newsletters.

Our new shade sails have been installed!

We are moving towards the end of Winter, but we are thrilled that our new shade sails have finally been installed, just in time for the warmer weather to arrive. Thank you to Mrs George for her work on creating a new outdoor learning space for our students. We cannot wait to see our students enjoying the new shaded space, as soon as the weather fines up!

Bula!

At Bimbadeen, a welcome sign, representing all languages across our community greets you at the entrance to our school.

Over the last week, ‘welcome’ has been added in a new language. The Tove family have a Fijian background and shared with us that ‘Bula’ is how they say welcome in their language.

We were very excited to add another language to our community Welcome sign at the front of the school and both Kimi and Shania were very proud to see their language represented.

If your family speak another language, not represented on our welcome sign, please let us know!

Children’s Book Week

The Book Week parade was a highlight for all Bimbadeen students and families this week. Our parade, held in the gym on Thursday was an incredible sight, with hundreds of different characters represented. Check out the photos of our Book Week Parade in our newsletter!

Father’s Day Stall Thank you

Thank you to our wonderful parent and carer helpers who assisted on our Fathers’ Day stall this week.

A particularly big thank you to Sarah Huxley for coordinating the event.

Our students thoroughly enjoyed browsing the items on offer, and we know our Fathers and special friends will be delighted with their treats on Father’s Day.

We wish a very happy Father's Day to all our Bimbadeen Dads and special friends!

We hope you all enjoyed a wonderful weekend, and we look forward to another fantastic week of learning at Bimbadeen!
