Digital Technologies

Dear families,

I am often asked by parents how to manage the use of devices at home.  There of course if no hard and fast rule and you need to modify and work out what works best for you.  But an article I found on Michael Grose’s blog, who is a leading parenting and educational speaker and writer, has some great tips.  He speaks of nine guidelines.

  1. Know what the rules and expectations are at school
  2. Specify hours for digital use
  3. Consider a digital device “contract”
  4. Layout consequences front the start
  5. Talk about respectful relationships and safety
  6. Be prepared to learn
  7. Change the rules if necessary
  8. Keep digital devices out of the bedroom
  9. Have a “digital detox” one day a week
