Living the Gospel

Did you know that October is Mission Month?

This October, we are celebrating World Mission Month, a month dedicated to the life-giving work of missionaries around the world.

This year, we walk hand-in-hand with the Church of Ethiopia and the local communities towards providing life-changing opportunities to those most in need.

Pope Francis, in his 2022 World Mission Sunday message, invites everyone to answer the call to be missionary, sharing that "Mission is carried out together, not individually...".

In the rural region of Emdibir, where 70 percent of families struggle to put food on their tables, we are working towards providing them with a sustainable source of nutrition by building a goat rearing centre. The resources produced through the Centre will help fight malnutrition, a phenomenon that contributes to 50 percent of child deaths. This project is led by Fr Habte, a local priest who is dedicated to raising the local community out of poverty by creating employment, providing sustainable food resources, and bringing hope.

Students at St James will support this amazing work by taking part in Socktober which will raise important funds for children and families in Ethiopia.

Stay tuned for more information about this event...coming soon!

Year 6 - Visit to the

Mary MacKillop Heritage Centre

Last Tuesday, the year 6's went on an excursion and a part of that excursion was visiting the Mary MacKillop Heritage Centre. It was very beautiful, and we got to see a lot of things from Mary's time. We first read a prayer in her chapel, the prayer was very inspiring for everyone. We all got given a quote to reflect on. It was an amazing place and all of the year 6s learnt a lot from Mary MacKillop. It was a very wonderful experience, and we all would love to go and see it again one day!

The Mary MacKillop quote I received was, “If we have love in our hearts, we shall have God with us”. It’s telling us that we have love and kindness in our hearts because God always loves us and is kind to everyone and if we do the same God will be with us no matter what. An example of showing Kindness is when someone is hurt you can walk up to them and ask if they're ok and help them up. An example of showing love is when you are sad you could go up to them and ask them for a hug. Mary Mackillop would always help the poor and open a  home for the poor so they wouldn’t sleep outside in the cold because she showed lots of love to them.  She opened more than one school for poor kids to learn. And she always has God in her heart to help her when she needs it. Mary Mackillop always had love for the people that she helped and she was also poor but she would help the poor instead of herself because he shows lots of love to everyone and that's why God is there to help her.
