In the co-curricular world the school has been a busy place over the last fortnight. We have had swimmers performing at the highest level, students involved in the local Orange Eisteddfod, and we have moved into the finals with our Winter sports.
Swimming
Both Bianca Fuller and Kyla Brown have again achieved outstanding results. The two swimmers have had a jammed packed season that has been going for twelve months. Last week both Bianca and Kyla were lucky enough to compete in the Australian All Schools Swimming Championships. Both swimmers performed exceptionally on the big stage. Kyla came home with a bronze medal and a fourth place in the 100m Breaststroke. Bianca finished with three gold medals, a silver and a bronze. A truly incredible performance at the highest level. Well done to both girls and we look forward to watching what you can do in the future.
Music
This week our music ensembles are busily competing in the local Orange Eisteddfod. This is another event that is fantastic to include back into our calendar. A wonderful opportunity for the students to showcase the talent on show here at school in the local community.
Winter Sports
Rugby finished up with a great weekend including a dinner with 380 people attending and the annual boarders and day bug games. It was a great weekend for our community with many of the parents having the opportunity to meet each other in a social setting for the first time.
The Wolaroi and Weymouth game was one of the best to date. It is a credit to the boys involved as the game was played in great spirits. Congratulations to the team from Wolaroi who won a close fought game on the day. Two tries from Carter Kirby proved to be the difference.
Netball have had a great season and managed to get 10 teams through to the ONA finals. Almost 50% of the teams. Congratulations and good luck this weekend to:
Hockey started finals this week. Congratulations and good luck tour U14 teams who play this Friday:
Well done to the KWS Raptors and KWS Warriors who faced off in a final of the U16 competition on Monday. The Warriors were ready to play on Monday, walking away with a solid win. Good luck to the Warriors next Monday as they play for a spot in the Grand Final.
The KWS Thunder and Hornets who are in the U18 competition also played each other. The Hornets who are a year 12 team proved experience counts as they won the game in convincing fashion. Good luck to the Hornets as they take on an OAGS team in the final on Monday.
The Timberwolves and Suns are straight through to their respective Grand Finals in the U18s competition. The Timberwolves have had a great season and are yet to be beaten this season.
Finally, a massive congratulations to our 1st hockey side. They have had a great second half to the season which culminated in a 6-1 win on the weekend over Confederates. The 1st grade side plays in the local Orange Women’s competition semi-final against Molong on Sunday at 10.00am. the school encourages all supporters of the hockey program to come along and watch the 1st grade side.
WAS Athletics
For the first time since 2018 the KWS athletics team were able to travel away to a representative carnival and compete. It was fantastic to see the smiling faces as they competed against the other local WAS schools in Dubbo. The students from KWS acquitted themselves very well on the day. Thanks goes to every student who agreed to take on extra events to cover for illness and students at exams. This was a great opportunity to compete before the upcoming ISA athletics carnival. Performance of the day must go to Ben Jones who went under the two-minute barrier for the 800m. We look forward to seeing how much he can shave off his PB this season.
The 2022 Rugby season has ended in style with a wonderful weekend displaying all that is great about KWS Rugby. The annual Rugby Presentation night was a tremendous event with 370 attendees being treated to a night celebrating and acknowledging the efforts of so many players, coaches and volunteers. The list of Award winners is attached.
Particularly inspiring was the closing address by 1st XV player Jake Chudleigh who spoke so passionately about his time at KWS Rugby and his hopes for the future. His thoughts were arguably the highlight of the night and his words inspired the room to celebrate what we currently have, but also the need to work harder to get better.
The following afternoon saw the annual Boarders v Day Students fixtures. These bruising encounters are already being recalled in the playground and will be spoken about for many years to come. The afternoon finished with the Weymouth v Wolaroi grudge match. Congratulations to Wolaroi House who ran out victors 10 – 5 over the gallant Weymouth House. Let’s hope the passion displayed for these fixtures carries into next season and beyond.
The KWS Rugby Club have done a mountain of work this season to support our players. The efforts of so many with the home game breakfasts, BBQ and canteen, and the exemplary work in organising our Presentation Dinner has displayed a genuine commitment to the KWS Rugby players. The Rugby Club plays a huge role in the development of our Rugby Program and as such we would like more parents involved. The KWS Rugby Club AGM will be held on Thursday 8 September, 2022 beginning at 7.00pm at the Parkview Hotel. We welcome all parents and future members, and would love to have more people involved. Please show your support for this dedicated group of KWS Rugby supporters.

The truest test of character is how individuals perform when under pressure and out of their comfort zone. Last Saturday, the 15A’s were up against OHS Junior A’s who previously beat them by a significant goal margin. With height and rep talent on the other team, the KWS 15A’s knew they were in for a true 'netty' battle. Prue in the defending circle did an amazing job against a shooter with height and accuracy while Pip went about her job shutting her WA down through the mid court. Despite going down to OHS, all girls in the team were commended on their approach to the game, all the way through to the end. The 15A’s play a tough game and I want to congratulate them on their efforts on Saturday! Thank you again to our most loyal supporter, Emily and the parents who always come to score and watch!
