Stuart Douglas Report

After almost three terms of boarding our Year 7 girl boarders are now settled in and familiar with the routines of boarding life. The girls have formed some firm friendships within the Stuart Douglas House and were keen to show their day school friends where they live, and what it is like to be a boarder.

On Sunday 28 August the girls hosted an afternoon tea for their friends from the day school community.  Each girl invited a friend and was able to show them around the house and the beautiful PLC grounds.  The girls prepared a lovely afternoon tea for their friends, including pizzas, homemade dips, fruit platters and flavoured milk drinks.  We held the afternoon tea at the Robyne Ridge Centre, with the girls decorating the tables with fresh flowers.

The girls and their friends enjoyed some fun games of table tennis and an old-fashioned game of Tug-o-War, with the boarders teaming up against the day girls in a hard fought battle.  There was plenty of dancing and laughter and it was a wonderful afternoon and a fabulous way to cement friendships in the day school community.

Trathen House Report

Hugo Johnson
Head of Trathen House

Term 3 has been a very busy time in Trathen House. The boys have well and truly settled into term 3 and it is always pleasing to reach this point of the year with them and witness the growth and maturity that has occurred.

The year is passing by quickly and it is great to see some sort of normality returning. Co-curricular has been a huge positive, and it has been great for the boys to have their first experiences of rugby, hockey and soccer at school. The rugby competition concluded last weekend with the Boarders vs Day students with some very tough games. It was a great way to finish the rugby season and the boys had a great time playing in the mud.  The away rugby games certainly make for some tired boys the following week, but they do truly enjoy spending time with their mates and playing a sport they enjoy.

It has been great to offer more on and off-site activities for Trathen house over the weekends this term. With the weather (hopefully) improving in the coming weeks we will look to take the boys off site on a Sunday. So far this term the boys have attended the circus, gone out to Gosling Creek for a fish and a scoot, and spent the afternoon at the school farm at Windemere. The boys and staff were very grateful to spend time off site in the fresh air and sunshine.

The boys have been very busy with assessment tasks this term and this has been a focus during prep of an evening. Each Monday and Wednesday night they work with Ms Amy Proudford-Nalder in the boarder literacy program which has been a great support to our boys. There are regularly academic staff who are also come into support the Trathen boys during prep. Ms Harriet Symons, Mrs Jeri Matheson and Mrs Bec Campey have all been working with the boys and I encourage everyone to access this support when needed. Diaries are checked each prep session and there is really no excuse to not be able to complete work with the supervision provided. I do encourage that you speak with you child and discuss how this is working for them. There are qualified supervisors from a range of backgrounds that can assist in all learning areas. Homework club is also available if the boys need extra time to complete tasks or support.

I am looking forward to the new Head of Boys Boarding starting this week. This will be a positive step forward for Kinross Wolaroi Boarding and I am sure that Mr Matt Byrne will be welcomed into the community. I will liaise with Mr Byrne when he arrives and hopefully, he will be able to attend our parent get together on 11 September.

Details are being finalised for the joint function with Stuart Douglas on 11 September, please let us know if you are planning on attending. It is being held from 11am-1pm on the Sunday after the boarder parent drinks on Saturday night.

I look forward to catching up with you all soon
