Friday 26 August marked a day of great excitement, celebration and costumes in the Junior School as it was our 2022 Book Week.
All students and staff in Pre-K – Year 6 (and even some English staff in the Senior School!) dressed up as some of their favourite book characters. Ranging from Charlotte’s Web to Mr Bambuckle, there were some show stopping costumes. All the Junior School teachers combined their magic forces to coordinate their costumes as Harry Potter characters in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the creation of this book series.
In the afternoon, we headed up to the Library for our Book Costume Parade and Kahoot in Team Houses. Congratulations to Brown House who won the Kahoot. In the Library we were also lucky to hear from our P&F and the results from the P&F Read-a-Thon.
A massive thank you to Mr Ryan, Mrs Pengilly and the Library Team who made this Book Week such a fun and memorable celebration for the Junior School. Your generosity in time and creative spirit is exactly what we love in our Library teachers – thank you!
Last week marked Science Week across all Australian schools. At Kinross Wolaroi School, we investigated and celebrated all things science on Tuesday August 16. Ranging from looking through magnifying glasses and microscopes to investigating glass, all students and staff enjoyed the opportunities to work and learn together.
On the 9th and 10th of August, a team of keen chess competitors travelled to Orange Christian School to compete in the Orange and Schools District Chess Competition. Over the 2 days, there were many successes for our KWS representatives and great stories to be shared about the competition with peers on Thursday the 11th when the team returned to school. We congratulate Mr Pritchard and the chess team for their great representation of KWS.
Day 1 done, Day 2 is through, Day 100 has landed! August 10th marked 100 days of Kindergarten. The Kindy Team celebrated this milestone with many fun activities planned for the day relating to 100. From making 100 out of objects, planting 100 plants at Windermere, drawing 100 symbols and eating food in the shape of the number 100, we would have to say that Kindergarten are professionals when working with this three-digit number. A massive thank you goes to Ms Cuming, Mrs Robson and Mrs Owen for their dedication, creativity and care shown to us all over our first 100 days at KWS.
Linking our learning to everyday events is a ‘core rock’ in our daily learning at KWS (no cave puns intended!). In Year 4, we are very grateful for Ms Morris and Mr Pritchard who allow for fun learning experiences. A recent memorable and beneficial learning day was in our adventures to Wellington Caves, on local Wiradjuri Country, on Monday 8th August to continue to investigate science concepts within our geology unit. Our favourite learning experience for the day was about the megafauna that was once found in the caves.
Over the course of the past few months, all the Junior School have been participating in the P&F Read-a-Thon. We are thankful to the P&F and Library staff at KWS who have provided the opportunities and extra encouragement to read a wide range of books. Congrats to all who participated within the competition. Special mentions include:
1st Prize for the Most Books Read – Dinithi Nanayakkara, Year 1 Elmer
2nd Prize for the Most Books Read – Nick Strahorn, Year 3 Volcanics
3rd Prize for the Most Books Read – Alec Stewart, Year 2 Alcott
