From the Deputy Principal

Mr Stephen Arthurson

Welcome to our last newsletter for Term Three.

It’s been a busy term, but amongst the busy-ness we have been witness to lots of great learning as well as some wonderful community events. I would like to thank our staff for their continued dedication, our students for their eagerness to learn, and our parent community for your ongoing support.

I trust all our Dads (and other significant father figures) had a great family day on Sunday. Our Father’s Morning last week had another great turnout, despite it being a chilly morning. Thanks to all our staff for their organisation, and particularly to Ash Marshall for her work behind the scenes and our Year Four team for their catering efforts. I was scrolling through photos of the morning when I saw one that truly captured the spirit of family - a Dad wearing an Essendon jumper hugging his daughter wearing a Collingwood one! I thought to myself, only the love between family members can overcome the Essendon-Collingwood rivalry (I say that as a long-suffering Bombers fan, bring on 2023!)

Last week, our Year 6 confirmation candidates had the privilege of attending an evening hosted by Sr Rita Malavisi, in preparation for being confirmed early in Term Four. Sr Rita has a long history of advocating for those in need, particularly asylum seekers who have arrived in Australia seeking a better life. Sr Rita challenged our Year 6's to become people who make a difference in the lives of others, guided by the gifts of the Holy Spirit. I ask you to continue to pray for our Confirmation candidates across the upcoming weeks. Photos of them can be found in the foyer of St Anne’s Church.

Our Year 6 students represented St Anne’s in lawn bowls, volleyball and basketball at the Sunbury Round Robin last Friday. We congratulate the boys basketball team who will go on to represent St Anne’s at the Division stage in Term Four. Cricket was postponed until a later date due to the condition of the ground.

Congratulations also to the students who competed in the Woodlands Division Track and Field Competition at Epping yesterday. Tynan came 1st in Hurdles and Tom G came 1st in High Jump, while Asha B came 2nd in 100m. Jazmyn came 2nd and 3rd in discus and shot put, William R came 3rd in shot put, Noa came 5th in 100m and Imogen came 4th in hurdles. Our relay teams all came 3rd - 10 boys Will, Carter, Lenny & Harrison J - 11 girls Asha, Imogen, Isobel & Evelyn - 12 boys Robbie, Tynan, Cooper & Noa.

Finally, the decision has been made to move our Senior Sports Day to Week Three of Term Four, which is Friday 21st October. This will allow us more time to have student input into the organisation of the day, and fingers crossed the weather might be a bit nicer too!

Term 3 finishes at the end of the day next Friday 16th September, and resumes on Monday October 3rd.

Warm regards and God’s blessings,

Stephen

A Special Thank You

To Sarah Magro and the P.T.F.A,  Erica, Michelle, Julie, Mary, Rhiannon, Danielle, Janelle, Rebecca, Sharnie, Kathryn, Sarah N, Sarah R, Amanda and Elisha for  organising the Fathers Day Stall. Thank you to Jaki Stewart and Matthew Howes for their generous donations. The Children loved buying Dad a gift and we couldn't do it without you all.

We have another special occasion coming up for St Anne's Dads.  Please see the flier in general news.  There is a Dad's dinner at the Ball Court Inn on Thursday 8th September.
