SENIOR PE

What a busy term it has been for Years 3 to 6 and across the school! In PE this term our focus has been on throwing, catching and striking. We started the term with Four Square and Spikeball where we learnt and built on some fundament striking skills and had some good rally’s with our teams. Next came T-ball and Softball. Students learnt some of the rules of both and were able to practise throwing underarm and overarm as well as catching the ball in the glove. Their favourite was when they got to bat, either off the tee or when pitched too! Finally we bought all our skills together with some game play! After that came cricket – another favourite across the board! The students got more practise with throwing and catching and this time added their bowling action into the mix! Batting again was a highlight along with some modified games and we finished off the unit with a game of continuous cricket. We will finish the term with tennis, where we will build on our forehand, backhand and serving skills, along with some game play to practise their skills and gain some experience with rallys.

In terms of events this term, a big highlight was the Colour Run for Fun! It was such a fun day, with lots of laughs, smiles, running and colour! The Year 6 leaders helped run a very successful junior sports day. They did a fantastic job teaching and encouraging our junior students in a range of different activities. Train like a Vixen was such a fantastic day for all that came along this week. With a mixture of defence, shooting, footwork, game play and more the students all had such a fun day! Next week will be a busy week with our Life Saving days at Mordialloc beach and our House Swimming Carnival next Thursday. Fingers crossed for nice weather! We have so much to look forward to, to finish off the term!

JUNIOR PE

What an amazing term it has been! Junior PE classes have participated in learning the skills of batting and fielding when playing cricket. We had a blast playing a mini game, making as many runs as we could. We developed our team working skills, throwing the ball to our team mates who were closer to the wickets. With a little bit of uncertainty we had a go at gymnastics skills.  Soon we realised that basic gymnastics simply requires balance, strength and good technique.  With a positive attitude we all practised resilience and gained some strength while holding superhero poses, front supports and back supports. With excitement we used the gymnastics mats to complete pencil rolls, dish rolls, egg rolls and leaps. To finish off our gymnastics unit we had some fun learning circus skills. Juggling with scarves, experimenting with hula hoops and walking on stilts were highlights. One of our term highlights was the Junior sports day, where all the students got to participate in a range of different activities and had such a fun time competing. To end the year, we are diving into soccer with a big focus on learning how to control the ball. Our final event of the year will be our swimming fun day at Casey race, which will surely be a highlight! With only a few weeks to go we look forward to seeing some more amazing teamwork and good sportsmanship.

ART

Art Workshop with Warren Langley and Julia Davis:

After months in the planning with the Art Director from Bunjil Place, 8 students from Clyde P.S. had the opportunity to work with Warren Langley and Julia Davis in a small art workshop.  They got to experience how Warren creates sculptures from acetate and heat, and how he uses a reverse painting technique to colour some of his sculptures.  Poppy, Presley, Ayami, Aleira, Lucy, Tailen, Cassidy and Dhiya were able to paint one of their own acetate pieces using reverse painting.  A technique where you layer paint on a clear surface to show the layers on the opposite side. The artworks they made inspired Warren who is making a sculpture to hang in the new Clyde Family Facility next door to Clyde Primary School.  Early next year we will be able to see the artwork Warren installs and know that our students helped inspire its making.

MUSIC

This term, junior students learned about beat and rhythm. Using Xylophones and Banjo drums, they created and copied each other's rhythms. Middle school students and seniors developed their understanding about the Time and "Note values" in music. They learned to identify the different notations and count the correct number of counts in a short piece of music. They played games to listen and recognise the sounds of various instruments. Seniors learned about different music genres in the 20th century and conducted research to further investigate about a genre they like. Finally, it was a joy for me to watch the enthusiasm of students from Foundation to Grade 5 practicing some popular Christmas carols within a short time for the Whole School Christmas Carols. I am sure there will be more exciting events for these budding performers next year.

Year 6

Reading

In Reading, students have been comparing and contrasting texts, authors, settings and characters. Students have also ben visualising by reading a short text and drawing what it has represented through its descriptive language. This has included visualising the setting, characters, mood and era of the text and then representing this through their own illustrations.

Writing

In Writing, students have investigated how to create a discursive piece of writing. Students explored that in a discursive text, the author presents both sides of a statement, idea or opinion to their audience, without the direct intention of persuading their audience. Whereas in a persuasive text the author’s intention is to persuade the reader to agree with their point of view.

Maths

In Maths, students have been exploring decimals, fractions and algebraic number problems and converting fractions from improper to proper fractions to successfully solve these equations. Students have also been investigating and plotting minus and positive x and y co-ordinates on a selection of graphs. Students have been manipulating and creating their own tessellating patterns by flipping, sliding and turning a selection of different sided shapes.

Inquiry

Students have ben investigating the three levels of government, local, state and federal that exist within Australia. We have explored local, state and federal laws, rules and regulations that all Australians are required to follow including how Bills (new laws) are passed in parliament and the process that is followed to pass new laws (Bills) through parliament involving the Upper and Lower House of Representatives and Senate.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Students have had a very busy Term 4 with extra-curricular activities that they have been involved in such as helping out with the F-2 Athletics Day, Train Like a Vixen excursion, Christmas Concert preparations and upcoming Graduation Celebration. Students will also be involved in an upcoming Beach Day and Swimming Carnival in the second last week of Term 4. Students are looking forward to their upcoming State-wide Transition Day on Tuesday, 13th December where they visit their new Secondary College that they are attending from 2023 onwards.

With only a week and half of school left, the Grade 6s are still very busy as we round out our year of learning at Clyde Primary School. Hoping that everyone has a lovely and safe Christmas break and a prosperous New Year in 2023! Take care!
