Walton House News
Dear Parents, Carers, Family and Students,
Hello Walton!
Term 4 – The Final Stretch
How is it already Term 4? This year has absolutely flown by, and it’s hard to believe we are close to the end of the academic year. We have a lot of exciting things happening in Term 4!
Year 12 Final Assembly:
On Monday the 17th of October, we will formally farewelling the wonderful 2022 year 12 students. The year 12s have been so inspirational this year, not only in their dedication to their schooling but as leaders of the school. They will be greatly missed, but we wish them the best!
Year 12 Mystery Excursion:
On Tuesday 18th, the year 12s will participate in a Mystery Excursion as a bit of fun as they finish their school year.
VCE Exams:
26th of October marks the beginning of the year 12 VCE exams. They kick off with the 3-hour English exam!
Holocaust Museum:
On the 2nd of December, the year 10 students will be taken on an excursion to the Holocaust Museum so they can learn about WW2. This will be an eye opening, confronting but ultimately a rich learning experience for the cohort.
Student Leaders:
We have been working hard finalising the year 7-12, Student Leadership Team for 2023, we will be publicising who these leaders are in the next week, and I will publish all names/roles in the next Newshamper too.
Homework Club
A reminder that homework club runs after school on Monday (library), Wednesday (e-block) and Thursday (library). The homework club is run by passionate, experienced and knowledgeable teachers, it is free tutoring and a wonderful program for any/all students to be involved in!
Values Nominations and House Points:
Term 3 has already shown a huge amount of values nominations come through to celebrate the incredible work that students are doing in their classes, and to show the dedication to adhering to the school values. We had a House Assembly last week which celebrated these achievements.
A huge congratulations to all our Walton students for their efforts on earning nominations for living our HPSC values. Currently our nominations stats are:
That is a total of 2,352 nominations since the beginning of the year!
Reading House Points
If sport isn’t your thing, remember that across the houses we have a reading program. This reading program is to encourage students to read books, fill out a mini review and receive 5 house points!
If you’re interested in this, please go to the library near the returns, and you’ll find some coloured slips. They are in house colours, so grab a yellow one and start reading! Ms Riley will add this to compass as a values nomination and you will get house points!
If a student writes a longer review (300 words), Mr Shinkfield will post it on the compass newsfeed, and that student will be awarded 50 house points (that’s right, 50!).
Staff Book Recommendation:
Gabrielle Phelan
I am going to recommend the book The Travelling Cat Chronicals, by Hiro Arikawa.
This is such a beautiful book! Set in Japan, the story is set from the perspective of a once stray cat, who experiences a great act of kindness when he is adopted by Satoru. They go on adventures together across Japan, visiting old friends and making memories.
Student of the Month
In each Newshamper we celebrate the achievements of one student.
This month, our student of the month is…Alex Ozsoy!
Alex is an incredibly respectful student who works hard and maintains a wonderful attitude towards all staff and peers. Alex represents the school values of Learning, Working Together and Respect, and raises and lowers the flags at the front of the school each day!
Ready to Learn Reminders
Please remember to wear your uniforms with pride. Uniform is an important way to demonstrate our togetherness as a community, and a way to represent our school community. It’s a responsibility of students at HPSC to uphold this standard, and overall, we are really impressed with the presentation of uniform so far.
As we are into winter, if a student has an out of uniform jumper, they may loan a school jacket for the day. They will also receive a detention, unless there is a valid reason for being out of uniform and note from home. Wearing the uniform correctly is a great way for us all to show school pride! 😊Remember to attend classes on time, so that students have the best chance at accessing information and content. Being 10 minutes late 5 times a week means students can be missing an hour of class time over the week. A reminder to students to ensure bags aren’t coming to classes, and that lockers are being used appropriately.
Thank you,
-The Walton Team
