Hollows House News

Hello everyone,

It is difficult to believe that only two weeks have passed since our students returned to school. It feels as though they have never been away. There is so much enthusiasm, fun and energy throughout the school—you can’t help but feel excited about what’s ahead for the rest of the term.

In the learning spaces, students have transitioned beautifully back to school; smiling, laughing and learning with their friends. Teachers are assessing where students are at in their learning, particularly in Literacy and Numeracy, and are providing any necessary support. This assessment will provide current information about every student, it will be used this term and will be considered for commencement, which begins in Week 8 of this term. It will provide us with valuable information about how best to plan and develop the appropriate learning for all of our students.

Can I again thank all our students and the wider community for the resilience, flexibility, and the ability to work together in managing the unprecedented flash flooding that occurred last Friday the 7th of October. It was quite a challenging situation for us at the school, and the support and communication that we received from our parents and guardians in assisting us was greatly appreciated. Some areas of Hollows House have been affected and we are working to rectify these areas to ensure they are again safe to use for effective learning. Being known as the ‘Water House’, Hollows certainly doesn’t need any further flash flooding to be occurring from this point onwards, that was extreme!

On Wednesday the 5th, we were able to celebrate our high achieving students with a morning tea, held in Freeman house. Congratulations to the following students for being recognised for your outstanding efforts, growth and consistent attendance:

In mentoring last week, Year 7 and 8 students commenced their mentoring House competitions for this term. We look forward to seeing the enthusiasm and participation across our House- some very exciting challenges for you all to be a part of. Year 9 and 10 students participated in a range of welcome back to the term activities- including Scattegories, providing feedback on the ILLY program, careers development opportunities and games. Year 11 students participated in a safe and legal driving presentation with our Lawyers in School program and Year 12 begun preparations for their final assembly, which is on this Monday 17th of October.

Meet our newest addition to the Hollows Leadership team: Habiba Ghulami 😊 Habiba will be working in Hollows House 1 day a week (every Friday) as one of your Student Learning Leaders. It is fair to say that Habiba may have taken the whole theme of ‘water’ in Hollows House a bit too literally on her first day; the day the flash flooding occurred.
